My model A has been gone for 3 weeks and I needed something to work on. I believe its an early 20s dodge. If anyone can pinpoint the year and model I would appreciate. going modified style with it it
Im going to do a modified style. I had already tacked up a T style frame I have a mopar box for cowl steering Ladder bars, hairpins, f100 brakes, 37-41 spindles. I have a front buggy spring for the rear unless I go with coil springs Rear has a 7-1/2" kick in the rear Im going to kick up the front Dan Collins style. I think I will channel this one. I also have TONS of questions to ask
Decided to channel the body today. Got rid of a lot of old metal ie. the floor. Found a bunch of bondo in the back. It appears to be a late 60s or 70s mold job. Anyway the filler seems to have preserved the metal. I guess a sub floor will be next
Started on sub floor today. Ill tie this into the body and firewall as it progresses. Note: steel is getting expensive
Very kool Richard Riddel built one that was featured in Hot Rod Magizine as Underbudget underslung one of the best rods i've seen very kool check it out
I put it on the floor today and mocked up some of the suspension. Im using the 40 front spring on the rear end. I have to figure where to set the Ladder bars. My concern is if I set them under the lowest part of the frame, that they will bottom out. So I will set them to just clear the frame before the kick up. Front is pretty self explanatory, I will pie cut just in front of the firewall. about 5 degrees will give me about 4-1/2 to 5" at the front cross member. Im going to cut out 2" out of the rear axle housing to center the rear end.
looks good. i really am startinh to pull twards these off brand(non ford) bodys. whats your motor plan?
I found another 283 locally from a 66 elky. 42 years old and still Standard bore!!!!!. Be a while before rebuild but Im glad I got it
I brought the rearend up to approx height with tires. Mocked up ladder bars. I had to push the rear end forward to avoid possible contact with the rear spring. Ill have to fab some spring perches. Critiques welcome
Today I swapped some stuff for a Muncie 3 speed It will go perfectly with the 62 truck bell housing I have in the rafters The code tells me its from December 17th 1974. with a 3.03 first gear I love hotrodding
Yesterday I got my batwings from speedway along with a few other items so I decided to mock up the front end (like I have a choice) Next is the rear suspension The spring perches 1/4 inch plate and 1x3/4 DOM squaring up everything and tacking with a small gap for penetration tacked in some gussets 1/4 inch Every thing is square Here it is under the frame I set the pinion angle at 0 degrees for now I can see major body modifications in the future!! Thanks for looking
Mocked up Ladder bars/hairpins. I know its not optimal, but its what I have for now. Maybe I can add a torque arm. Chime in with thoughts please
Today I did some work to the firewall. I'm going to do swing pedals with the Chevy brake/clutch master. I decided to back up the firewall with a piece of 16 gauge. The firewall was totally molded with bondo. I was originally going to leave the Bondo kind of as a homage to the 60s or 70s when it was probably done. But that went out the window. Took about an hour of burning and grinding to get the finish off. One good thing about the body filler. It really preserved the steel. Ill tack it together this weekend, and get going on a swing pedal mount
