I need rear fenders for my "Attic Anglia" find. Steel ones are scarce, which got me to thinking: Why not find a steel fender that is close to the right size / shape and modify it to fit my Anglia? Then I thought of the Volkswagen Beetle, either original or reincarnate versions. The size and shape is about right and repop steel VW fenders are real inexpensive. Has anybody done this? Can anybody photoshop one for me. I'm not averse to making new mini-tubs to help mate them up. Suggestions?
Here's a couple on ebay for $48 each. They look to be a little wider than Anglia. Could this be too easy?
Why not glass ones, anything from another make or year even would be a load of work to fit up and look good. Scotty
Glass ones are readily available - in fact there is a guy on Ebay making ones out of the molds that were made off my car back in the late 60's! And they were probably more "Traditional" on the Gasser Anglia's than steel ones! (although mine are oddly enough steel)
try and get the original vw ones if u go that rout. aftermarket fenders are way thin, even the italian made ones.
I would prefer to not use fiberglass. I would prefer steel. The ones I patched together for my son's hot rod were rotted out specimens widened one inch at the front and two inches at the rear. We also put in mini-tubs flush with the outside edge of the (home built)frame kick-ups so there is plenty of room for tahyres. While I do not have any rotted out originals to start from on this project I am hoping VDubs are close enough in net shape to use as a base. Or something else. Anybody besides me thinking this way?
I knew a guy in Hayward CA. that bought an Anglia with VW rear fenders on it. It takes a lot of work to make them fit. I would use 67 and earlier rear fenders. Stay away from Super Beetle fenders.
