New ride , Tell me what it is and tell me what to do with it

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by second_time_around, Jan 13, 2010.

  1. Leave the exterior stock. Put in a V8-60 and a 39 trans and drive it. It would be cool and definitely different.

If it's 100% original, why throw out all the hard to find bits to build a rod? restore it, trade it and build a rod from something that's only half there.

As original it'll only grow in value, as a rod it might be worth more now but in ten or twenty years? Let's face it, there's never going to be a lot of pristine Nash around.

'26 -'27 Chevy .... the body is nailed to wooden framework... and is made up from about a zillion panels. I'm in the process of streetrodding a '27 Olds and replacing all the wood with metal tubes and panels.

I like cutting things up like the next guy, but an 80+ year old car with 16k original miles...

How's the saying go, "that's as rare as hens teeth"!

I promise you, this is probably a 1 of 1 car as far as condition goes....

I vote find somebody that really wants to restore an orginal 16k mile car and that will throw money at you, then buy something really cool. Or even another Nash like that, but one that's no so original...

When you stop building your ride the way you want it, you start at that point building it for someone else! I made that same mistake years ago, Damn this is to nice to do this and that to. The guy that bought it did it simular to what I wanted to and it was totally BAD ASS!
It's yours build it the way you want it or sell it! Sorry just the way I see it! If everyone had tried the lame idea of not makin any changes to old vehicles this site would'nt exist and you would'nt have known how awesome a chopped and slammed merc looked or any other vehicle that was built the way the builder visioned it.

Just because it's all there and so nice I'd
definitely keep it original. If you want a rod,
I'd look for another one that that still has a
decent body shell and frame but is less
complete. As it is , if you don't want a
restoration, you could probably sell or
trade it for enough to make a good start
on building a really bithin' rod.

I love hotrods and all, but at this point in the game, people need to start having a little more respect for the old metal that's left. If it's too nice to chop it, why? Just because you can? Because it's the in thing? One person's "BAD ASS" is another person's abortion. Save the hacksaw for the poopy cars out there, still plenty of em. Save the trees, the whales, and what's left of the good condition originals/stocks. That's my crusade and my opinion.

I agree. New hot rods are being built every
day, using almost any and every conceivable
early-style & make of bodiy, but the Nash
factory hasn't turned out any original '26
    Nashs since......well......since 1926!

That Nash is sure in nice shape. I had a buddy once that had a 59 or 60 Rambler wagon. He said it had a 327 Rambler V8 in it. It had a 3spd and OD in it. It ran real good, as in smoke the tires. IF I was going to rod it, I would try and keep it all American mtrs or Nash. It's your car, I like low mi originals, but if done tastefully, it would be a sweet rod. JMO Lippy :D

Ya know, you've heard from alot of different guys on here. They're mostly sayin' the same thing. If you HAVE to rod it, do it semi-stock in appearance. You might consider a 308 Hudson with dual carbs for the engine?(Nash/Hudson)
If you intend to cut it, maybe just a raked cut, down in front by a couple of inches? I kinda like a car with a raked theme, go big n little's for wheels/tires if the big disc's don't do it for you. With a wheel/tire change you might not need to lower the front end at all ...?
Fenders/fenderless? I think that would depend on the overall look you were going for? If you are doing a streetable rod, as a daily-driver, fenders do keep kleenup down. I'm a 'wash n wear' kinda guy, so less kleenup is a good thing. However, if you want more of a dry-lakes look, fenderless/bobbed has less drag.

Anyway you build it, put together a folder of concepts that you like for the style of car you want to build. Let it ride for a while, as you decide which concepts work together/which ones don't. Weed out the don'ts.

If you 'photoshop' submit a 'photo' of what you see. If not, use a copier and a pair of sissors. Put together your ideas and post 'em for feedback.
You'll get just that, our various opinions. Use them as what they are, input. Maybe you will find them useful, maybe not. You will hear back from us if you are making a styling mistake, it's up to you if you don't listen ...

16,000 mile original, I wouldn't cut that up. Sell it to some one who wants to restore it and buy a project to build a hot rod with the funds. Did you get a good dela on it? could be a nice profit in it.

I have desided to do a mild custom hotrod out of it . gonna replace the rearend and the motor and trans lower the frontend and run 15's in the rear and 14's on the front and chrome bumpers , and a mild custom interior, tie the frame ir will look good with some pie cutters on the rear ... and I think I'll go fenderless and perhaps hoodless , and do no chopping or cutting to the body , I don't want to leave it orignal and I don't want to cut it up either ,,, the car on a good day is worth 6 to 8 grand , as stated on someones post """"it's not a dusenberg """ if I customize it the world is not at a lost , the car sat in a barn for 48 years no one even new it was there so it's no loss to the world and I have a great start of a 50's 60's style hotrod , thanks to MOST everyone for the input I keep pictures posted as to the progress . Thanks

I love hotrods but an original restore is what this rareity should have.

  19. I guess it takes someone really good to take an unusual car and try to make it look like every other Model A......Maybe no one will even notice that its a Nash.. when your thru fucking it up....

  20. I love the color combo, I say pull the fenders and lower it.... DONE!

  21. im here for hot rods! restoring is boring and we are seeing far to many people talking about restoring latly. im sure theres enough of these already restored to original. cut that sucker up and make it your own and forget about the nay sayers. there are web sites for restorers. this one is about old hot rods.

Ration sticker in the windshield. That car says survivor/sleeper. I'd find a modern drivetrain with overdrive and not touch that body. Wouldn't even paint it except that primered panel. Probably even find a way to mount those wheels just because they don't look like every other Ford at the rod run. Make that 16k mileage go to 200k at 75 on the freeway. Drive it to CHRR, Vegas, Speed Week, HAMB Drags, Detroit auto show, etc. in comfort and class. Any ass can make it look like just another Model A resale red with mags streetrod. You want a hotrod, put a 671 blown 572 Chevy in a T bucket. LOL
