The return line on my 99 Cadillac got a crack in it and as a result, I lost all of my fluid. So I got a new line on, but I dont have any cadillac special power steering fluid (as the cap recomends that I use it) I've got some old AMC Jeep fluid for my 84 cherokee... will this work, or am I going to have to make a fun down to the 24 Hour truckstop? I've heard both things, that those recommended fluids are bullshit, and that they are imparitive to the car's life, or whatever, So will it die with jeep fluid? Thanks guys, Jonnycola
My old car just takes ATF...but my mom uses "Power Steering Fluid" in her car. I'm pretty sure it's just ATF in a different bottle, but I'm not positive. I know some late model stuff has weird special seals in it so if you use something "wrong" it'll leak like hell...
thats what I'm worried about.....that jeep dosent have any oddball shit in it, and neither does this caddy. All the old fluid is gone, so I dont think I have to worry about it mixing, but do I have to worry about any of the rubber pieces or anything wearing away? The stuff that was in there smells like ordinary power steering fluid
The only cars I've ever seen to take diffrent power steering fluid are Hondas and some German make everything else takes old power steering fluid. If your owners book on your car gives a part number for the fluid a good parts store can cross it to fine out what it is. Some parts stores have book to help find the right fluid. I pretty shore your going to find it to be normal fluid.
