Hot Rods New sneakers for the Hussy

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Dec 19, 2010.

  1. Ever since I got this car I wanted to change a few things, much like JJ did when he had it. Well the rear tires were shot and of unknown origin so I wasn't real comfortable putting alot of miles on them. Also, as much as I liked the Ansens in the rear I thought chrome reverse front and rear would be sweet. Well, a phone call to Cody and Steve at Hurst and a call to Jimmy at Ralley America and I was ready. The rims finally arrived this week and I got them mounted yesterday. Both Hurst and Ralley America did a fantastic job. I couldn't be happier. Took her out this morning for a little spin. It was a bit brisk at 25 degrees but well worth it. Here are some pics! Looking good, a lot more north east looking now.

Will we see you at the Showdown in May?

Its hard to improve on something that was pretty damn good to start with. Good first steps to "making it your own."

    Looks good.

  11. Actually you are correct. Cody and Steve at Hurst ***ured me on a car this light it would not ba an issue. Todd

Looks mighty fine there Tug!! Yeah, you'll be fine with the bias/radial mix.

I can't believe you still have that damn oil filter on there! Jeez.

Looks like you're taking real good care of it. Keep up the good work.

  15. I've changed the oil twice since I got it, including the filter. As I'm sure you're aware it is a tight fit for the oil filter. I could only find a Fram at the time that would fit. I have since found a short Wix. I am really not a fan of Fram filters! Todd

Yes it is tight. I would buy a case of those Wix filters. You know what it's like to need them and they haver been discontinued or not sold at your parts store. I have had this problem before and have learned.

I heard you got the trans working as it was designed. How do you like the performance now?

  17. It's pretty cool. It is half ***ed wired now. I am planning on hardwiring it with a idiot light before spring. I really haven't messed it with it much. One thing, it is nice at a stop light to flip the switch and the car just sits there without having to lay on the brakes. I will play with it more once the warm weather gets here.

One other thing I really need to do is rebuild the steering box. Their is a TON of slop in it. I have one to rebuild and swapout. I also need to pull the motor in order to get the steering box out.

One thing I would do is put a brace from the dash to the floor or firewall. I noticed a fair amount of movement there. Also, Check the bolts to the frame from the box. We had to tighten them once.

I bet that helped alot at lights. How do you like the way it launches with the higher stall speed?

Love the new look. On my old '27 T that I built also with A frame and a '65 300 I ran into the same problem with the oil filter, I ended up using a V6 oil filter housing. The V6's have more room infront of the motor to the radiator so GM put the filter sticking forward more than the V8's. bolts right on to the V8 timing cover, plentifull in junk yards, and worked great for the 4k miles I put on it and last I know is still going strong. I will try to find a pic for you.

  23. One of the nice things about Hurst is they can cut just about any groove pattern you want. This is their "Retro" pattern. Todd

The **** ***hole that I am, I used to scuff and shoot every oil filter that I installed on that car. The first one I painted a pearl white and then when to gloss black after that. Crazy? maybe but that **** looked pretty good hahah!!!!

Tuggie, the new wheels and tires look so rad!!! I'm really digging it man and both parties (wheelkid & Hurst) both did a bang up job. Now what you need to do is drive that car back down here so we can dis***emble that front end and you can have our secret back yard chrome shop chrome the whole thing cheap!

Here's the only pic where you can see how I painted the oil filter....It's black and doesn't stick out. It's as simple as getting a FRAM filter, scrubbing it with some 400 grit sandpaper and shooting it with single stage black or even rattle can it. Tape off the grip (bedliner) part and it'll look awesome.

  27. Just wait my friend. I have a Model A axle I am going to drop and drill. I will have it chromed if I don't have to sell a kidney to afford it. I am for sure going to get the wishbones chromed. I am also probably going to go over to Guide headlights since I will have to change the shock mounts also.

Friends don't let friends install Fram filters. They're only good for pistol target practice, nice and visible at 100+ yards. I wouldn't dare install one on an engine I gave a damn about though...

Send that son of a ***** down here and we'll get it chromed for ya! I think this guy was going to charge me $300 to do the axle and wishbones last time I checked. It may have even included tie rod and drag link.

Never had a problem with them. My friend Ron hates them too but I couldn't come up with one single example where they had noticeably negatively affected an engine they were installed in. I'll take the advice and not press my luck though. My engines from now on don't have spin on oil filters anyways so I'll look for filters other then FRAM.
