If you need info on old boats contact Spike Morelli he is the man for boats and info. He is on the hamb also there is classic v-drive club of america www.v-driveboats.com
how could you tell the difference from a 348? i know the dip stick is on different sides but can't remember which side it is on for the 409.. just did some checking... dipstick location. 409 engines had the dipstick on the passenger side and 348's had it on the driver side. This isn't a fool proof method however as the oil pans are interchangable.
the 409 is on the front right. the 348 is on the back left. the engine in a v drive sets backwards from what a car engine would set. i do not see the dip stick so i assume its a 409. your boat is a rayson craft from early/mid sixties. is the deck wood or fiberglass?
Looks like a reyersoncraft or stephens, 60's model. If you restore ,you do it for your own pleasure. They dont sell very well. The hull design is a ski-boat style. Get on performane boats or Texashot boats. I am on both sites. We go to Somerville regularly. If the floor is delemanated and the stringers and wood is shot part it out. Should do pretty good. Any questions you can P.m. me. I have a Hondo sprint flatty vdrive project and a done jetboat. Lots of info on Performance boats
The Block Date Code for the 1958-62 348 and 409 engines is located on the rear of the block, near driver side. (to the right of the block casting number) get the cast numbers and i cant help you figure out what engine you have.
I don't think that there is a Marine Journal yet so maybe you're all right with a Hot Rod boat. You've been around since '04 so I know you've seen some boat threads. I don't know but I would also like to know, old speed boats are cool. Anyway pretty cool lookin' ol boat. And if you decide that being a squid isn't your cup of tea you can always build a hot rod around that engine.
There should also be a number stamped into the machined pad just in front of the passenger side (when in a car) cyl head that should tell you what application the engine was built for. If it is an original 409/409hp dual quad engine it is worth a good buck. Even if it is not, it is still a desireable and valuable engine and intake set-up if it is not totally destoryed inside.
This has to be the best deal I have ever come across. Thank you for the info.. I hope you find one too. I just didn't know what to say when one of my best friends found it for me (DROPLORD49)
Thank you for the website. The shrubs are actually growing out of the seat.. I was worried too but the floors solid.
I fell in love when my friend Droplord49 showed me this boat. His friend came to him and said "I don't want this boat to go to a rich guy, do you know anyone who likes old fiberglass speed boats and W motors.." Luckily Droplord49 thought of me first... I am still shocked and I can't stop thinking about it. Friend or not, this would have been a hard one to pass on.. 409 dual quad SS from a 63 impala SW guages Moon foot pedal A cool shape and a nice low trailer.. all weathered of coarse. I was really planning on finding a 348 attached to a rotten boat. This is far from though.. I am going to restore it back to heavy metal flake blue (The kind that can be seen from space) and white. Then i will be pulling it around with my 348 powered big window swb fleetside 58 Apache once its done. If anyone needs any 55-59 Chevy/Gmc parts or trucks...or two neat old fiberglass outboard boats.. I am selling everything to finance the Apache and boat project. Thanks Chandler
That is NOT a Sanger! rrayne is on the money, RaysonCraft. in this market right now flatty prices are in the toilet right now. you can pick up some nice boats finished around 5-6 grand.
You can pick up a REAL NICE finished flat bottom for 5-6 grand!! v-driveboat.com is an awesome forum, I couldn't believe how much help I got when I built my '65 Stevens and put a Nailhead in it. That forum is the HAMB of drag and ski boats!!
That has to be one of the coolest old boats I've seen. And with a "W" engine. Don't get much cooler. Congrats. Post pics as you go.
Not on an boat Motor. I got a 409 Crusader marine engine with 62´High Performance Block number but has the notches in the cylinder bores like the truck engines. And there is no numbers at all stamped in the machined pad in front!!
Dude, no apology for posting that baby. I am with my bro 2nd chance, that machine would be awesome towed behind his W powered 34 hot rod. ~Sololobo~
Jelous? I get to look at this boat everyday when I walk through the garage for work. We have some 55-57 Chevrolet / gmc parts for sale to fund a small portion of the boat project.... I HAVE to be in that boat tannin' next summer. We are asking $75 for any part some we might be able to ship. We have a chevy grill, fenders, emblems. etc. e-mail me at kenziewessely@gmail.com
That's a cool ass find! I used to live in Brenham, wish I'd stumbled across that on one of my many dirt road adventures!
Definitely NOT a Sanger, I would have to say mid 60's Stephens... Unfortunately the glass looks too far gone to put back in the water, I'd say grab the motor, the rigging and whatever else you can scavenge and toss the rest I’ve heard that some of the 409 boat motors where reverse rotation… Just an FYI
Sorry, but it doesn't look anything like a mid 60's Stevens...as others have pointed out, it's a Rayson Craft. This is a mid 60's Stevens...'65 to be exact!
Glad to see you are doing the right thing. What a score! Parting out a survivor is a crime, boat or rod. Hope we will see pics when its done. MAN is that KOOL!
