My steering box is shot, got an incredible amount of play in it. Looking at alternatives to the overpriced original boxes and have come across the GM 525 and 800 steering box repeatedly. Anyone used one of these in their trucks? Anyone used anything else and feel like making a suggestion? Running the stock straight axle and components up front... Thanks for any help and insight you can offer.

A lot of people use the Toyota. Only exp. I have is with the 525 which I like. Do not use the quick ratio as it is to fast. Try to find one with the pitman around 5 1/2''. Mounting isnt to complicated. On my 56 the box came off a 65 Impala. You will need the tierod end from Speedway with the hole in it and a left hand tap. All of this converts it to cross steer. There is plenty of info at Mid Fifty and more than likley can be used with yours. If your trying to reduce steering effort look at the boxes off of the large trucks. They have usally 1 more turn lock to lock but less effort. Good luck . Hope this helps get you started.
