1952-59 Ford new to group customline

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by 53CustomlineFlathead, Jul 20, 2012.

  1. I rescued my 4 door from under some pecan trees in Seguin, Texas about a year ago. I spent 2 days scrubbing it with a hose and a brillo pad before I discovered that it was red! (I have since changed it)
After putting about 8k miles on it in the first 6 months I really wanted an overdrive or a taller rear gear than the 4:11's. I found an overdrive in Miami on craigslist and called in a favor from a friend that lives near there... I installed the 3 speed overdrive last night and it works like a charm except I now have a 12 volt battery in the trunk to operate the 12 volt solenoid on the ******.
I am getting ready to do a 12 volt swap on the car since I will then be able to run electric wipers and a tach... chit, I might even put a radio in it... but probably not.
I have been a Chevy guy all my life but I am having a love affair with an old flatty. I have had her up to 100 but she prefers 65. Like driving a cloud down the road!

Welcome to the group from Abbottstown .
I also recommend the Rebal 9+3 wiring harness since I also bought one for my 55 Fairlane .
As for a rear I highly suggest getting an early Mustang , 65 to 69 ford 8" rear . They usually came with a 2.79 gear but some did have the 3.00 . They are the same width and only a couple simple mounting mods will do the trick . They are very strong rears and super easy to find parts for . I got mine off C/L and paid $100 for it complete with everything . I usually see them for about $100 to $250 . Just run a wanted post in the parts section and I am sure you will have one soon enough .

I sell a 1949 to 1959 Ford disc that has all the exploded views and information for your Ford . They are very helpfull and i have sold a lot to many of the Ford group people ! Just send me a PM and I will tell you how to get one . They are only $12 to your door .

    Jim
