Hi All, I recently was made aware of this web site and discussion group. I have lived in Gainesville Florida for many years and am a big drag racing fan. Over the years I have become interested in the history of the Gainesville Raceway here north of town. I thought I would try to record how it got started and write a little bit about the people who were important in making it the special place it is. I would love to talk to people who raced or worked here in the late 60's and during the 70's. Cheers, Greg
Crewed on an alcohol funny car at the gators in the mid 70's and live in Crystal River . Which is just west of Ocala.
Cool. I have been asking people like you about their experiences at the track during it's early days. I want want to write about the people's story more so than just stats of who won what and when. So I have asked: what made the Gainesville Raceway special compared to other drag strips during that time. Was there a person (or several) who seemed to be key in helping to make the raceway a unique place, and so forth.
