    Gents,

I stumbled onto this group as I am restoring my dads old 56 Victoria. It was left to me in 82 and I have been driving it a little and storing it alot since then. Now that my kids are grown and gone I plan on spending some time and $$$ on the old Ford. Not doing an indepth restoration, just building the motor (292), cleaning up the engine compartment, and a good fresh paint job. I grew up working with acrylic enamel but haven't done any paint work for several years. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to the best product to use. I have looked at several of the major company's web sites but am confused by some of their terminology. I was also amazed at the price of some of them. One was over $300 a gallon. Any suggestions will be appreciated and I will try to post some pics as I go.

    Later,
    Timbo

Howdy and welcome. It'll be good to see another '56 Victoria in the group. How's 'bout some progress pictures when you get time to post? Looking forward to seeing them.

Welcome, Timbo! I've painted a car or two in the past...in lacquer and acrylic enamel...at home, and will be doing the same with my Vicky project. The cost has gone through the roof with the new finishes, but traditional paints are still available and are more affordable.

The most useful advance, however, is catylized etching primers like DP40. This stuff really bites onto the metal and the body filler and gives you a base you can count on to stay put. And that's the real secret to good painting.

Post some photos of your car and keep us up to date on your progress, okay?
