Good Morning to all from the Commonwealth, As I sit here looking out the window at the thin layer of snow, I realize that I need to get working on my '39 Ford Deluxe again. I regualrly drive my '65 Fairlane around- it has less than 38,000 original miles on it and now it is time to work on the 39 sedan. I looked at some prior information shared on this site about using an S-10 frame under a Deluxe. Is this fairly easy? Why won't it work on a '39 Standard? What is the difference? Will that frame still allow me to use a Ford Powerplant? Does anyone have a photo documentary of the tasks needed to complete this work. I plan to make acomplete history as I go along, good, bad or otherwise. I still prefer the Ford motors anytime, anywhere. Has anyone tried to use a Ranger frame or other? I read in Hemmings somehwere about another frame that is readily avaialble to use under these old cars, but of course I can not locate the specific item in the issue now that I need it. Does anyone else recall such a thing?
Welcome to the HAMB. All of those questions could prolly be answered by using the search function. Give yourself some time, use the search and read what is posted. Jump in and comment where you feel comfortable and soon enough you will feel right at home. BB
Merry Christmas to you and yours Bob K, Is there an easy way to pare down those volumes of articles to look for the ones dealing with s-10 frame swaps into old Fords- with detail or photos or do I have to go through them one at a time? Are you a Packers fan? They did not show up yesterday did they? I don't rememeber the last tiem the whole team was ina funk. Have you ever put an entirely different running gear under an old car or would you just start from scratch? This is also on my mind.
I am no expert on old Fords (some would say that I am no expert on anything, but I generally ignore those folks). It is a ton of work to put a new frame under any old car. Having said that, there are a lot of guy's that do it and many of them post here. This board is centered around the TRADITIONAL way of building hot rods and most of the folks around here would tell you that you can get a great ride and stance with the ford frame just by doing the suspension the old fashioned way. I haven't done one of those for many years. The last time was a 39 Deluxe coupe and we did that in 1955. I am more into the custom's than the hot rods. Just read diligently because there is always someone building one with a droppe axle and better brakes on here. I never have tried to do it but the search has a feature called "go advanced" that allows you to be very specific about what you are looking for. I'll get off of my box now. BB
Deluxe , welcome....your questions on frame swaps would get more attention an the main board. but , i'll give you my opinion right here..stay with the `39 ford frame! it fits your body best. then upgrade the suspension...rear end kits to install later rears and dropped front axle kits are available , reasonably priced and easy to install. and they work great in my opinion ,putting an S-10 or ford ranger frame under your `39 Ford is not the way to go
