IMG_20150222_193105.jpg IMG_20150308_183253.jpg IMG_20150308_183137.jpg So I just found this 1950 4 door mercury, and I'm excited to get her up and running. I will be dropping in the 350 that came with it for now. This summer is going to be all play, and next fall its business time. I do not have any experience in chopping but it will be happening. Does anyone have any side by side pics of 3" 4" or 5" chops? I'm not sure how much to go and definitely do not want to go to far. When you look at some of these gorgeous cars, they dont really tell you how much its chopped.

How about being really different and NOT chopping it! Four doors are so classy when stock it would be a shame to take that away...

  8. There have been two 4 door chop threads in the past 6 months. Search and you will find.

    More pics please.
I want to see the inside, and that shifter and all too.
Whats your 4drs trunk look like?

I also have a 50 merc that I am working on. Already have the 350/350 on air ride in it too, not as far along as yours looks though, But I do have a set of coupe doors that I may plan to make it into before chopping.

Many a Merc has be ruined by a botched chop attempt. Not for the faint at heart. Please do plenty of research before making that first cut. Good luck.

Doors are in great shape, truck is only glassed at the spare tire and i'll get more pics as soon as I can. I love the Desoto grill that you have! Are you planning on tunneling those headlights? How was the air ride install? I'm planning on that being a winter job. Please send some pics as well

I have some chop pics of coupes, but been along time since I cut a moredoor. One thing that really looks good on the rear of the car is to reshape the rear door top to flow more like a coupe. There is a black one on here somewhere that looked great with the reshaped window, and I think it was cut 3" front 3.5" rear. I usually don't go over 4.5" on the windshield and 5.5 on the rear.

Thanks! I am really digging the grill too! Even though its pretty pitted, but I still like it.
Yeah I will end up Frenching the headlights at some point. Its spring here in Minnesota so the big push is to get it all wired and to sand all the rust off and spray it.
This is the only air ride picture I have, there are many different ways to do it. This is a little different than the last car i did, an impala. Next time I have it up on the hoist ill take some more photos for you.

I hear ya, get it running, wired and on the road is #1. I'm just east of the cities myself and looking forward to a little warmer weather to be able to get her out for the first drive. I will be putting the front clip back on this weekend and getting the drive shaft cut and balanced next week. I'm having a hard time uploading my pics, says its to large, otherwise i'd have about 30 on here. once I can roll her outside, i'll get some good ones.

I'll have to keep my eye open for a reshaped window. I like that idea

  22. I'm with these guys. To do a good chop on a more door is tricky. Ask me how I know.

Nice build. Not no ford guy, but hat body style is just cool. Do you have a sponge bob drain pan to go with the other 1? LOL

Well, We are getting a little closer to pulling her out of the garage! just ordered my wiring harness and radiator. I'll get that in hopefully this weekend. My biggest challenge ahead that I see, is hooking up my shifter and linkage. Is going to a cable my best option? Skirts look good too I think! 20150418_124330.jpg 20150418_120206.jpg 20150418_124356.jpg 20150418_124343.jpg P1010203-2.JPG

I can't wait to see this Merc cruising around the cities this summer. I am glad someone went with 49/50 skirts. People like the 51 skirt better since it's longer and has that lip for the wheel

I am also very curious about your rear door windows without the wing windows.

I agree about the skirts. I think they are pretty slick. The 51's are fine but I like the sleeker look. Those back windows are siliconed in and not even hooked up. The previous owner must have busted them out and just had the glass cut. Now, I really like the look without the rear wing window, but i will have to rework those windows when we chop it. This year i will leave the rear windows up the way it is. Have you been out to the N.S.P. show yet? Has it even started?

Why would one do that? I like functioning window. The Nsp show doesn't start until June and yes I'll be going to that. It's real close to home.
