Spent the day on the 52. This ain't the prettyest chop but I am working with what I have for tools. No E-wheel or power hammer. I didn't want the quarter windows shortened up so I moved the whole upper back and I have the full size windows I wanted but it has made alot of extra work.. I am now wishing I took 4"s outa the front now also, today was the first time I had it outside
It will look great with the door frames, etc. attached. I see the hood has been welded up. Was this done from the top, leaving the flange underneath?
starting to get it smoothed out, still needs some work in the quarter windows but its getting there, and the rear window still fits!!! woo hoo!!!
I found a very rotten 54 Belair 2dr post car in a old junk yard while looking for other parts, looking at it the only that was any good on it was some of the SS trim on the drivers door and both quarter windows and I got to dreaming so I got what was there and this is what I am thinking. It all fits pretty good but will need a few minor adjustments, these shots are just test fits so what does everybody think? Has anyone ever done this before? I don't remember seeing it. If there are any pics of it done out there I would love to see them.
Picked up a new motor yesterday. A friend of mine is putting a new L.S.A. blower motor in his 62 Impala and I got his 350/350 roller cam motor W/700r4 and Vintage air setup. Runs perfect but might have a bit to much bling for the 52 and I am sure it will burn up the skinny wide whites in no time. But its all there, pretty much plug n play!
So how many inches did you end up taking out of the A and B pilar? I think it turned out great looking.
3"s all the way around stright down chop. Thanks I do wish I didn't take the drip rails though. Been working on getting the floors cleaned up and the garnish moldings done and some other odds and ends.
Rounded door corners work well with a shaved drip rail, if you decide against the BelAir trim. The quarter windows look great...well worth the extra effort. Please Keep us updated.
Thought about the rounded corners and still might do it if the Belair trim doesn't come out right. Thanks on the windows, yes I think they look much better longer.
The guy that had the car before me cut these giant hole for some kinda tail lights, don't have a clue what he was thinking but I finally got them filled and I hope to be putting my tail lights in the bumper guards if I can find the right ones. Now on to the gas door.
Today I removed the front tin and got it up in the air. Gona try to put a power rack on it, I hope it works anybody done this before? Mocked up a cross member for the mount.
Check out this article. There was a guy selling this kit at onetime but I couldn't dig it up. I thought I read somewhere it had bump steer issues? Not sure what you would have to do to correct that. But, I'd think if you got the same angle on your tie rods it would work out fine. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B29e7ApG_niNX2dDRzFIanB2YUk
I like your chop! It's subtle - people will look at your car and wonder if it's chopped or not, and won't know it is until it's parked next to a stocker. Too much of a chop looks weird, IMHO.
Interesting, a little tough to read but it looks almost like what I am trying. I saw a 40 Chevy done the way I am doing it, sorta, I am useing a Celebrity 85 to 93 rack. Going to try it but not damage any of the stock parts just in case. It was only $63.00 so what the heck.
Got everything fit and made the mount now I have to figure out the steering shaft. Looks like 2 u-joints should do it. Its been alot of work, hope the the planets align and it really steer's
Got the R&P mount done and on, did my 2" controll arm drop added pwr disk brakes and now I just need to finish the springs and tie rod ends
Also started my tail lights, 47 Caddy guards, 41-47 Buick lights. There will be a vertical spear under the round light also. Good lord I just realized I have been multi tasking
Got a request for a picture of the rack mount in the car. Also cut the 2nd hole for the lower part of the tail light, not real sure I like it but now I'm stuck with it.
Gave up on the tail lights to get it back on the ground after the A-arm drop. Looks like its all going to work out great! The rack lines up and the ride hieght looks good. It should settle in about another inch after its all togeather and I will probly need another inch or so in the rear.
While I am waiting for the u-joints to show up for the steering I yanked the motor out to fill the holes in the fire wall and finish up the rack and motor mounts.
