Hey, new to the group. I own a 1955 Ford Customline, it was my first car (still is my only car) but I'm only 18 so im likely to have many more. Its a good car but lately its been in a bit of a situation. But hopefully it will be brought back to its former glory. Used to always want a 55 Chevy Bel air, there was a 4 door yellow chevy in my town. But turns out a I got a 55 ford 4 door instead for $850. Im finding I like the look a bit more, has a nicer grill I think
Welcome from St. Louis. If you have questions the guys here can anwer them - they've helped me a bunch. Post some pics of your '55.
Thanks, I've tried selling my ford before but the thing seems to be blessed or cursed to my ownership. Once I get around to finding a job I'm going to start putting money into it, a lot of body work on the floor panels and rocker panels and fenders need to be done, and some engine work. I'm hoping to make it a daily driver someday (daily for me is probably once a week, I usually just take the bus or light rail everywhere) I got it for $850 in April, and did some math and Ill probably be spending $2000+ on the car to get it in good shape again. Unless I want to just spend money on the engine and drive it as is and let it fall apart over a course of one year, which I wont do. I figure if Im gonna have a job and I only have one car and its this one, Ill put the money into that. Not gonna buy another car. And Ill post pictures once I figure out how haha
At 18 it's a steep learning curve to keep any car reliable. The old Fords are as easy as any of them and when right will give many years of of reliable service. You don't need a special toolkit just some spanners and screwdrivers and away you go. The body repairs can be fun if you have someone who can show you the way. A mig welder will be your best friend. Regards
I got my '54 when I was 16 and I still have it today at 33. I know what you mean about being blessed or cursed with cl***ic Ford ownership... I haven't ever tried to sell mine but there have been periods when I got frustrated or bored and it sat and collected dust for a couple of years at a time. Just have fun with it man. These are good cars.
My grandparents gave me my '56 when I was 14 and my kids are arguing over who will get it. It's great that you've got one already at your age - do what you can to hang onto the "first one" as there is only one.
