Hi, I am new to the site and wanted to reach out to the members and everyone that reads this great site !! I have a friend that bought a car and he was told that this Cadillac was bought by Al Capone for his barber back in the day. I have been trying to verify this information for him. I have reached out to the Al Capone Museum and have not heard a response. I also contacted the vehicle motor registry and provided the VIN # but they are saying that their records only go back so many years and they were unable to help. Is there anyone out there that can suggest where else I can look? Thank !!
Hi. I am including a link to the vintage Cadillac & LaSalle club of America. They have a forum there and should be able to decode the engine # on the car. They should be able to pretty much tell you everything on the original window sticker & if you are lucky someone there may be able to tell where it originally sold. Likely any info beyond that will be hard to find unless you have the names of original owner & such. I am not sure how much they can help but it is worth a shot to go there & ask. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...OlSGnamOuNvjay3zQVM4jQ&bvm=bv.142059868,d.eWE Good luck, Jimmie
Thank You chopped51. I hope I can find the answers with the linked that you provided. Happy New Year !!
Al must have had a lot of cars. It must be six months since the last person joined with a car owned by him. Al was sent to prison for 11 years in 1931.
Well I hope the others that have join and have these cars can help me with information so I can get the documentation that is needed to prove that this in fact we Al Capone's car. I am trying to help my friend get his affairs in order and we would like to donate the car back to the Museum that we heard about. We were told we need the proof that this was the Barber's car before the donation.
If it is a 1940 Caddy, the point I was making was that I doubt he was in a position to be fitting out cars with machine gun racks. But hey, maybe.
X 38,,Looks like they cleaned up the story on Als death...He actually died from syphliss...call it whatever
Hi. I watched a documentary style show of the Chicago gang & Al Capone. The info given there was that he was released from prison after I thin 7 years in the mid to late 30's and was very ill & he & his wife moved to Florida and resided there. Likely any 1940 car he owned would have come from Florida as would his barber and as he was so ill he could hardly get around its unlikely he would have had machine gun racks in it in 1940. But that is just speculation on my part. These car ownership claims pop up all the time in the collector car stuff and if you do not have registration or title in their name you have nothing but an old car. And 40 Cadillacs are nice desirable collector cars no matter who owned them. Good luck & I do hope you can come up with the needed info. Florida DMV might be a place to start if Capone was there at that time. Jimmie
We have 2 titles for the case with the owners information. We have the title # and both these people came from the Ohio area, so we went to Ohio DMV. They said they went as far back as they could, but their records did not go back all the way to the 40's. The person that sold the car claims he has the papers but decided that he wanted the car back as his wife made him sell it, or we could pay BIG $$ to get the documents. Doesn't say stupid on my forehead !! lol I will work to help my friend locate the information or as you said, put it up for sale and see what he can get for it. He was hoping to get it back the the museum. We even tried the Imperial Palace in Vegas and they never responded back.
