  1. I'm not real crazy about the pastel look...but that's just my $.02. Here's Havy Chevy's truck with a gold satin look...maybe something like this for the Caddy?

  2. one more so you can see a little more shimmer....

This could be done with green or yellow, though. I can't remember what type of paint he used on the truck. Maybe somebody else will know.

  3. That's a nice looking color too. The guy that is going to shoot the paint picked out something real close to that when I stopped by his house yesterday.

If I go with yellow it will be a pale yellow. I saw a nice '59 El Camino last year the was painted a satin yellow and the top of the car was a gold metalflake with red metalflake flames, real nice.

You must be thinking of PasoJohn, Minnesota boy. This pic was from the Hunnert Car Pileup (http://www.hunnertcarpileup.com)

as for your interior, tan goes with everything! just ask the Gap! [IMG] I know they make fabric/vinyl/leather dyes that you could use to change your interior to just about any color except white.

i could be wrong but i think in that pic pasojohn's camino is in yellow primer for the body but i could be wrong. i seem to remember the threat of a matching job for the body as is the top. could be wrong have been before. as i said use tinted primer and you can even change the color a coupla times if you wanted. it's not the final stage so you got play room. i like the pea green even better than the yellow. but anything other than satin black. i'm tellin you if you shoot the roof in shiny paint and the shoot the body in primer for a working but solid stage of the game you knock your own socks off. you got go ahead and do a nice scallop and or flame job on the top too if you wanted. i just keep thinking on scallops and lace panels but then again i'm really wanting to do some lace panels lately. i've also cheated and cleared a white hok sealer for top white. works real good. in fact thats what the top of the buick is. for now anyhow. soon it will be resprayed and get the paint i first considered doing inspired heavily by the green buick in the hot rods and customs of the 60s book. gotta finish the plymouth first maybe by this time next year the buick will be reborn. i've got the tube grilles front and rear nearly done just a little work left there. not sure how much i like the rear one so i may do something different there. only time will tell. again good luck and if i can help with any info just yell. looks like your takin the ribbin here well so you'll do ok. most people would have split by this point...ken....

    This satin gold looks GREAT.

That would work well with white flake roof and should match up well with your tan interior.

I never tried to find mine, but here is some info from a 63-64 Cadillac message board. I don't know if it applies to your '62....

"Typically the vin # is in 3 places on your car.
1st) it is aways on the frame on the 1st crossmember lip just in front of the radiator.
To find. raise hood and look down and to the right just below the radiator support at the frame crossmember that goes from right to left. The VIN is stamped into the metal facing up. You will probably need some sandpaper or steel wool to bring it out. Sometimes wetting it makes it easier to read.

2nd) The VIN is stamped on the motor on the left (driver) side below the exhaust manifold and just above the oil pan. Again this may need some sandpaper and you will not be able to see this unless you get under the car. This one is really hard to see with the engine is still in the car but is useful in verifying that your engine is the original.....this is what they mean by matching numbers.

3rd) Sometimes there is a service label mounted to the inside of the door jamb on the left/driver side. This is just held on by two tiny phillips screws and is easily removed and/or sometimes they get painted over."

I'll look around and see if I can find out anything specific to your '62 if this doesn't work.

  12. Thanks Lucky for the info. I'm definantly going to start with the first coat of primer to see what my bodywork looks like and then decide my next step or color. I'm kicking around the idea of something on the roof and I'm real partial to flames, but that is at least a month away which will give me some time to work on something.

The black was always a temp job until I can do it the way I want. Everyone's input has just gotton me a little closer to were I want to be and that's with a lowered custom car that looks like a custom. After everything is said and done it may end up being satin black, but right now I like the idea of adding some color, and the roof was probably going to get painted anyways, even before I got on this board. Thanks for the input, like all the other input it's getting to to think this thing out a bit.

Great car! I like the stance, wheels etc. I've always wanted to do a similar vintage Cad - glad somebody is already doing it. Welcome
