I have been wanting an A pickup for a lot of years and I finally got one. Before I picked it up I had already bought a 81A V8 core to build for it but now I have been thinking "Banger". Put about 150 miles on it in the last week and topped out at 55 mph. Fun to drive but a little slow, looking for Hop Up ideas and have had some help already from Keven Vaughan and other in the V4 crowd. Beautiful 81A V8 core that will be built and go in if I get tired of four cylinder fun. Model C engine that is in it now. High compression head (6:1) on loan from Keven Vaughan @HotrodVon
A couple of questions, are you going to have the engine apart thus suggestions for cams. Do you want to step up ($$$) to an overhead? Do you already have a 3.54 rear end in it? I have one just like yours except mine is the cheap model, soft top and no roll up windows. I assume you know about Charlie Yapp and the Secrets of Speed Society (SOSS), http://www.secretsofspeed.com? Also for stock Model B parts Dave Renner, rennerscorner.com, (734) 428-8424. I like your truck. Charlie Stephens
Does it have the stock transmission? Swapping in a 39 transmission and lightened flywheel , in my opinion, really makes them fun to drive.
No immediate plane to open the engine, although a cam is on my mind. actually have no idea of the gear ratio but I think 55 is tops right now no matter how quick I get to it. Don't know of Charlie yet but you are the second to mention his name.
Yes, stock trans. Although I have a fresh built, ready to go '39 that I was going to use behind the V8. What do you need for the swap?
There is a "kit" to do the adaption. It consists of an aluminum adapter that adapts the transmission to the engine and adapters for the pedals and wishbone. I know Dennis Cling at clingsaftermarket.com, (480) 777-1202 has them but I am sure others also sell the kit. I don't know how many manufactures there are for the kit. You might ask on ford barn. Took a little road trip for Memorial Day. Drove to the Porterville cemetery to see Mom and Dad then to Bartlett Park and on to Springville. Total 95 miles with a top speed of 55 but mostly around 50. Good times, no problems.
It's a good thing you have a 'new' parking structure!! Enjoy! You could always cut a Y Block in half and still have a 4 cylinder
Great truck and congrats! Although, there may be a certain spouse that thinks it's "her" truck. Enjoy the banger. I had Yapp exhaust, a downdraft intake and FSI ignition, Holley94, Snyders head and ran 62 fairly easy. The banger bug is okay, me thinks.
