Roadsters just don't look good with the top up. They were really only for keeping the rain off anyway. I don't recall the Ol' Man ever putting the top up on the roadster, if I recall eventually it was a permanent resident of the garage. I think that if one really wants a top that looks good they need to look to the euro imports for inspiration. The top on a Morgan or a Jag has a nice look to it kind of rounded off, and not bulky.
That doesn't mean you can't make it look better, though, while maintaining the style that has been used on roadsters for many years.
Yep, keep it looking like an after though is always best. I once knew a girl that always wore granny panties, unless she had a date then she put on the nice silky ones.
I found a rabbit hole and ran down it. "One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small . . . ." [Grace Slick]LOL
I like ultra glossy automotive paints jobs. The more the gloss the better. I like ultra, mega, super shiny white or light blue. What I don't like is "stuff" in the paint to create texture. Give me the gloss and I'm happy.
Ok, really do have to do something with this top it flaps like crazy at speed it seems to need some sort of support from the windshield back to the first support, looks like we're going topless for a while.
I will disagree with the statement that roadsters don't look good with a top. A properly done top looks great on a roadster and is much appreciated as a reprieve from the relentless sun or rain too. Yes, an open topless ride is great under the right conditions, but the older I get the more I appreciate a little comfort on occasion. Yes I will drive my roadster without the top lots, however when I want a good top it will be there. My story and reason for hauling the RPU to Rod Tops all the way over in Michigan, and I'm sticking to it
Hence the last statement on my post. Short of saying anything bad about the OPs car as it is a nice car, the top on a that roadster is like Miss universe in granny panties. The euro tops were smooth and stylish, Henry's tops were not so much. I have an older friend here in the metro, older enough to have had wining show cars in the late 50s or early 60s older. he always told me that roadsters and convertibles were for driving in the fall and spring. At least around here they were. I have never seen him in anything but a coupe or a sedan, and he may have decided that when he was still a young man. LOL
I've been checking out some of the threads on roadster tops on here and there is a wide variety of looks, it doesn't look like it's a quick fix though I think it's going to take a lot of trial and error to get it just right not to mention some serious cost if I start changing stanchions, windshield, top bows etc. May be a winter project and just going topless this summer.
yep, take the top off, and put it back on for bad weather. i don't really think the top is that bad and i bet it would look better with a set of wind wings on the windshield posts
Top looks like a rendition from a rag man bent on fad Tees. Way too much height on 'B' and 'C' hoops; then, an excess of canvas over the edges, in an attempt to reach down to an upper window line. A stock top would have been light years lower...and correctly shaped.
Looks great. A body that nice deserves shiny paint. Makes it easier to find in a parking lot of flat black and red steelies.
Topless at last, got a break in the weather and pulled the top off today for a little ride in the country. Man forgot how much fun an open roadster is what a blast and sounds friggin' great. Spent last week changing water pumps, plugs, wires, coil, added elec. ign. new cap and rotor, for a little flattie she pulls really strong but may be just a tad rich yet. The car sat for about 3 years before I got it so I'm sure there'll be a few more surprises along the way but can't wait for the next blast around the block. Here's those topless pics. as requested.
Thanks guys, I gotta admit I know I'm grinning ear to ear every minute I'm behind the wheel shiny or crusty it's hard to beat a ride in an open roadster on a nice day, can't wait for tomorrow.
