Do new U-joints have a break in period? I'm feeling kind of a wobbling feeling when I drive around in the 55 Ford now, and the driveshaft is new with new U-joints, and I'm wondering if that might be the wobbling or if it is all in my head.
No break-in period, but if you over tighten the Ubolts that hold them to the yoke the cups can distort and cause a rough movement. I'd be looking in a different area if you have a wobbling feel, the driveshaft will normally cause a vibration more like a humming or shake than a wobble. Maybe bad spring bushings or something in that area?
I think it might be in my head. It's been a couple months since I've driven it and it now has different tranny/new driveshaft/new rear axle bearings/ new clutch and pressure plate, etc... It just feels different and I can't tell if it is different "better" yet. I just thought I'd check on that first.
When I hop into one of the cars I haven't driven in a while I usually spend a half hour trying to figure out what's "wrong" till I give up and get used to it. Drives the wife nuts when I do that
I was driving around in it and my buddy asked "Well, how's it feel?" and I just "Hmmm" and "well...., I don't know, it feels weird, can you feel the car shimmying?" Well, he flipped out. "Jesus H., you do this every time, the car is never as fast as you remember or something feels broken, drive the fucking thing, it's all in your mind!!" Maybe now is the time to get one of those, "Honk if anything falls off" bumper stickers!
