Hired a gl*** guy thats done other work for me, but not on a 1954 Customline. What are some tricks to working with the chrome trim? I have removed the upper sections on my parts car and dont want to damage any of the strait pieces i have!

Read the manual closely for your model. Some of the trim is installed to the rubber seal before the window is installed. Also, if you're going to ever do your headliner, do it now. The headliner is installed before the windows are. I soap the seal up good before installing and use the string method, but your gl*** guy probably knows that. Good luck.

All depends on how the manual says to install. A little soapy water in a squirt bottle is fine. With a guy at each corner pushing lightly as the string is pulled and a guy on the inside pulling, it's a 2 minute job.

lots of muscle with TLC! I installed my front window and wow its alot of work! I paid someone to install my rear window because of the curve of the gl***.

Really never had a problem with them. Are you pulling them in using a small diameter cord?

If you don't like the string method there is a nice tool made with a ball on the end to install the new gaskets . I have one but haven't had the change to use one yet Well made from Eastwood .
I am going to let a guy in the next tow do mine . He has been in business for a very long time and has done many curved old gl*** . He charged $75 per window . So I figured $150 to do the front and back will be a great deal !

The bad part about any tool that is hard is that there is the potential to jam or get tight as you pull. If so, something has to give, usually the gl***. Everybody has their own method. I learned the string method and a couple other tricks from my father -in-law, who was a glazier and had a gl*** shop for 40 years. He put thousands of curved gl*** windows in back in the day.
If you pay to have it done, that's fine too.

Gl*** went in Great! Really better with two people and yes Rope method works perfectly with the other person applying pressure on the outside working your way around. installed window seal and chrome on new gl*** some tape and set the window.....I will try and post some pics soon.
Thanks for all the input guys. Today is a Feelgood Friday!

Glad to hear it turned out great for you ! I have seen it done on TV before and read many times on how it's done but if I wanted to do it I would like to have tried it on something smaller than my windshield . I can build you an engine as you want , do some body work , rewire you car and install another rear or new front end but I have never tried the windshield install yet and would rather pay a pro to do it . I have done many side flat gl*** and curved gl*** in the 1970's and 80's but never did a curved windshield and they are to costly to replace on because I messed up someplace with too much pressure .

Reedo I hope you used a good quality packing seal (material) around pinch weld. Before you installed windshild. If you only installed gl***/rubber seal without some you may find out that your windshield will leak. I install gl*** at the bodyshop I work for. Just my 2 cents.
