The disk brakes are new, but the center section is from the late 50's.

Are you sure? That looks like a standard issue mid/late 1980's (roundy round late model stock car) unit with a Super Cover on it.

Otherwise then it has me fooled.

That new Winter's old style rear is pretty cool though :)

I sent them pics when I ordered the axels for it.
There is no ID Tag, just some stampings in the case.
They didn't even have records of the numbers for it.

Those calipers are pretty damned old too.

Certainly no newer than the early to mid-70's.

Circle track racers embraced disk brakes very early, even on dirt, 'cause the brakes are essential to a fast lap, and drums heat fade quickly.

Those finned super covers showed up pretty early on as well. Years ago, the material that change gears were made of was very heat sensitive, so anything you could do to extract heat would make them live longer. Ergo, finned covers, with bigger bearings to fight flex.

Do a little digging, you'll be surprised how quickly big disk brakes, hollow magnesium 3/4 ton wide five hubs, and magnesium 3/4 ton quickchange rears showed up on circle track cars.

Yep! I saw it too. Pretty reasonable price... (relatively speaking). I wonder how this will effect business for Hot Rod Works. Interesting...

just saw em on the back of my new speedway !

  10. I bought mine with 2 hours running time in a SCCA GT-1 T-bird with 7 gearsets, new locker, extra gun drilled axles, Titanium lug nuts, coil over mounts, Wats linkage, 4 bars, 4 JFZ calipers 2 sets of floater hubs and rotors for $750!

I bought a Franklin cover for the rear on ebay for $28 and replaced the bearings for another $15 and put 24,000 miles on it!

It was cheaper than a 9 inch... all I had to do was order a set of wheels with the proper offset of 6 inches and they were cheap from American.

I guess I'd never buy a Quickchange at the $3,000 prices but I've had 10 cars with them and I always find them reasonably priced from the racers....

Dabirguy bought his Quickchange from me and the center section is old and the rear end was used in a 70's Roundy Round.

I've sold a few of these old racer rears to quite a few HAMB'rs... also had the Magnesium Halibrand QC's but I quickly turned those to fund my chassis builds!

Can't wait till you guys get them on the road!!!

  12. Ok so what kinda HP/TQ will the centre/axles take?

I want the early look with late forged axles and brakes, but it has to take the mumbo...

    Anyone know?
