Any of you Kiwi Hambers going to participate in Americarna next week?

I'm getting hitched on Saturday, and for the honeymoon we're heading over to New Zealand. We're flying into Christchurch and driving south to Invercargill, and will be there sometime Wednesday to check out Americarna for a couple of days.

Anything I should see while I'm there? I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow hot rodders...every New Zealand hot rodder I've met so far has been very nice.

Unfortunately, I'm not bringing a hot rod with me, but I still think we'll have a good time.

We just did a 1600 mile road trip to Invercargill, left the v8 there for the hot rod nats in easter. probably do another 1000 miles on the way home.
Fantastic scenery and people all the way.
Are you heading to the North island at all? Let us know if you are. We are going to the "Beach hop" the same weekend as americarna but its in the coromandel half way up the north island . this is a 5 day event which attracts 800 or so cars.

hey there Brian congrats on your marriage and you've picked great place to honeymoon!! I live just outside Dunedin, which is halfway-ish between Christchurch and Invercargill...the township we live in (Outram) is about 10mins off the main highway.Always keen to meet fellow Hambers and chin wag bout cars over a cold beer and such.
Would love to meet you both if you have time .I do mostly bodywork on the old stuff (check out my build thread :D) and have a few contacts through my work and car club if you'd like to check 'em out.
PM me if you like ,Cheers Paul

Olskool, the Hotrod Heaven boys are in Palmerston North. I can see that shop if I look out the window at work. I like the El Camino.

  16. Its a great place to spend time honeymooning. My wife and I spent two weeks there for ours seven years ago. Flew into Christchurch then drove a big anticlockwise loop. Saw alot and yet somehow seemed to miss the car stuff, just.... Would do it again though fantastic country and some awesome roads to drive on. Especially in a rental ;)

  21. Congrats on getting hitched.
Your going to the best island, (Ill catch hell for that) but im betting you havent allowed enough time to see a lot. Im on the west coast, across from Christchurch.
Enjoy yourselves, its a cruizy pace of life here. If you get a chance, take a drive up the west coast, the scenery will blow you away. Pm me if you do. Ill hook you up with some nice ink.

    Jeff.

  22. Well beachop and americarna clash.
Also they are 1000 miles apart in different islands.
Unless you are spending a few days in Invercargill
then flying to Whangamata for beachop ..:D:D

Enjoy whatever you do here and be sure to let The HAMB in on it ... :)

  23. sure, a clash, but if I was flying from Texas to NZ then I'd fly to both over the coarse of the weekend, as I think it would be worth the effort (although maybe not on my honeymoon...;):D)

Pack a wooly jumper (some velcro gloves and your gumboots...;):D.) as it's getting a bit cooler than what you'd be used to in Texas.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

Cool, thanks for all the info so far! We are going to be in Queenstown on Friday and Saturday (25th-26th), then we're flying up to Auckland on Sunday the 27th, but we don't get in until the evening. Staying in the Auckland area until Tuesday the 29th.

Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with some of you guys at some point along the way.

The ol' lady has put up with me for 7 years so far, so I guess it was time to tie the knot. Thanks for all the congratulatory remarks, I appreciate it!

  25. Well you may just be in luck.
Sunday the 27th in Auckland is the
premier event of the year for HAMB friendly cars etc.
    The Hot Rod Blowout.
Even KiwiKev is coming over for it.

  26. Damn. Just saw you don't get in till evening.
Probably a chance to catch up with many of the guys though.

Was going to say, perfect for Blowout! Definitely the most HAMB friendly event of the year.

let people know where you're staying, and I'm sure someone will give you a lift, It's not far from the center of downtown Auckland.

Hey Bass, let me know if you need any contacts. I can put you in touch with the owner/promoter of the show. He is a great host and I'm sure would get you sorted. Drop my name with him.

New Zealand and everyone I've met there are amazing! You won't find nicer people on the planet!
