I have a curly one here. A few years a go I was removing a stump from my fathers front yard (Central coast NSW aust) and as I was digging I found a number plate-weird. Asked Docflathead about the plate and he thought it was a NZ number plate-weirder. The plate is stamped aluminium. It is black finish with the machined digits-JF 4289. Is it possible to trace the plate to its original owner? What sort of era is it from? Could a hot rod have been imported and the plate simply discarded into the dirt? Any help is appreciated.
Searching the plate on the local plate site brings up the following... .... Search results for JF 4289 Plate: JF 4289 No information available Someone may know of a rod that was shipped over or maybe someone kept a plate for posterity. Would be a late '70's or an early 1980's plate.... My '57 Chev was IU 1957 that hit the streets in about 1977....
You're welcome. Now, I was just flicking thru an old photo album. Pix from 1982 NZ Street Rod Nationals and also 1982 Snow Run. There are cars with KK xxxx Rego. My guess is that it's possible that the plate came off a Ford with 289 power..... Sometimes you were lucky back then if you smiled nicely you could hunt down a plate that sort of personalised your ride by having the year of the car or the cubes under the hood on it...
thats hardcase finding one there. not sure when we stopped using those plates but my 83 tonners got em. im coming over your way next week, or perth to be exact. ill drop the album off as i fly over! lol. im posting it off to you on tuesday. been real busy getting organised.
Hey kp no rush, im only 4000kms away drop in on the way past! So cruisin- you couldnt choose custom plates back then? I thought 289 before but looking again could be 428?
Personalised plates weren't around then and the rego places weren't as anal as they are today. Any hint of an interesting plate and hey presto "that's a personalised plate" Pay 700 peso's and all is yours, yeah right! BLOWME comes to mind.....
