Ok I’m jonesing bad to do something to my car...it’s been over 4 months and I haven’t done anything to it.... tooo hot! Ok really I guess I'm just afraid to screw it up...it’s my first old car and i love my car, I want to make her better! How did you get over the first time dithers of doing something major to your ride? I have so many ideas.... don’t know where to start.... I hope I'm not alone here...ok I’m rambling. Sorry.... Johnny
Just get in that garage and do what you want! If you need help or guidance there is always somebody here that can help you.
if it makes you feel better , even though i have built dozens of cars from the frame up i get a little nervous tearing apart a car that is running and driving. a few years ago i did some major rework on a car that was entry #1 at the very first street rod nationals in Peoria IL in 1970...took me a week to get up the courage to tear it all apart
learn on you´r misstakes. or ask a friend if you dont have any,do like me,do it you´r self. taking mutch more time, but be proud, did it my self, gona get you selfasteam
Damn dude, I was trying to think of how to say something similar without being too obvious - good job

Plan out what you want to do. If the work is way beyond your abilities - farm it out. If the work is just out of reach of your abilities - treat it as a learning experience to expand your abilities. Every person on here started their first build at some point. I myself have found several retired guys who live nearby that have fooled around with cars all their life and can't wait to help me with my ride. I would think there should be just a few retired hotrodders in and around St. Pete. Good luck with the car and post up some pics so we can see what you are working on from start to finish.
i have actually done this ! worked in the gold mines for several yrs driving haul trucks , even an instructor ! this is a rush ! plus when & if you get to dump it , you get this HUGE wheelie when the rock hits the tail of the bed . the slam down is awesome . done it several times . had a co-worker dump one & go on his back ! yes upside down . drivin big stuff is a kick . have driven bigger also . you just got to try it !! .. steve
Start small & work up!! Even better if you start with stuff that can be unbolted and removed should you mess up too bad. All in all - a good attitude is 90% of the battle.
dont worry to much the first car i did i cut the firewall out before i new how to weld soon learned how to work a mig.
here's some words of wisdom from someone who has been there.... they come apart easier than they go back together. don't go ripping stuff up because you want to do something and have no money. tore my old 56 chevy apart for some reason. from what I remember it was a running -driving car. next thing you know the motor is out and all disassembled. it never did go back together.
My first car would never gone back together if it wasn't for people around me who actually knew what they were doing.
Wow! Thanks you all for your words.... and great advice. My car is a 1951 Chevy styleline deluxe 4-door. Little rust.. But she runs.... we have already put some good miles on her. From St Pete and now holiday (where I live now if any one is close by and wouldnt mine giving out some pointers lol) Florida to Orlando. Did Billetproof here too. I love driving her, and would hate to have her down...but I know its coming. She needs some floor repair and some work in the rear area around wheel well But she runs great.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> Plans well.... I got some lakes pipes few weeks ago for her. But I need to get a split exhaust to put them on. Can wait!<o></o> I want to change the grill area up was thinking floating grill or chrome cabinet knobs<o></o> But the biggest change would be to lower and chop the top ok I want to chop that top so bad looking at all the chopped top here is driving me crazy want to do it so bad I love that look low and mean <o></o> Well again my Brother rodders thanks for your words and advice Johnny
I d start with the floor pans first. Not alot of money .If your keeping it a driver.Don't chop the top Big bag of worms there Glass ,doors .Time Id Cut the whole roof off and make a convertible roadster. Without side windows
When my hearse pissed me off one too many times, i just went out one morning, picked up the angle grinder and chopped the whole damn roof off at the top of the pillars and then said to myself "well, now ya GOTTA fix it"! Its only metal, it can be fixed
