This board has got something like 5,000 users now. I think it's safe to say we've let a few in thru the cracks. I've got nothing against newbies, but at the same time, I don't want to come on here to help them pick out a boss stereo for their PT Cruiser or argue over who makes the best 22" Dubs for their Yukon. And I sure don't want to buy their nifty new billet ******** or whatever else they're trying to make a buck on. This place is like a club and like any club, it has it's own agenda. We're not here to support the aftermarket. We don't care how fast your ricer is or how many OCC and WCC stickers you have on your minitruck. We're here because we like old school hot rods and customs and we like building our own using what we have or can scrounge up. Most of us are lost in the 50's or 60's and like it that way. We also like to know a little about who we're talking to. You don't have to have all the skills to join, hell, you don't even have to have a car. But you do have to have an interest in what we're about. Newbies who can live with that will find this a great place. Those who can't will get their ***es kicked back out the door they came in. And that's fine with me.

We are no longer a bunch of "hoodlums"... this place has been legitimized just like hot rodding did back in the day... it's good, because we get to learn a lot and teach a lot and get a lot of good info... but bad because we're soft now... and nobody likes to be soft. I used to bash people a lot... then the bash-police got on us... then I turned to just being a plain smart-*** to newbies... and that was even less well recieved... Maybe I should just go back to telling it like it is... I felt more comfortable doing that. Besides... the true reason for the messageboard is for people to TALK about ****... and OPINIONS are what drives them... Sam.

Hey I agree with you. I joined in january and almost never used this board for that reason as I saw people get burned. However being friends with a few local hambers has shown me a totaly different h.a.m.b. than what I thought it was about. The h.a.m.b. is a great source for the hobby and I also have lots to contribute. Thanks Ryan and thanks to all the hambers because we all contribute. Still learning the rules myself.
In my veiw its always the same **** talkers on the posts in question.I belive they are all upset cause they got turned down for a security job positions!!! Its weak and puts a stain on the members that have some integraty and social skills. At least the Newbies have a excuse for there mistakes. These bully types are just part of the disease that plagues our country.And the worst part is that its sets a example and effects things on a larger scale than this board.Someone may see this and feel its ok to act in this perverse manner in the world. What a shame such a great place as this has this flaw in it.I started to take part in this BS at first then realized how childish and Rude it was I would never do this in my home so I changed my tune... my take....

when i joined i got the post an intro - now i'm usually private about stuff so it took about 4 attempts to write something sufficient - but it worked out in the end - hey its just common sense - now that i think about it - you wouldn't just rock into a club with ut intoing yourself to a couple of people - this boards about sharing info and having a laugh as far as i can see - and i ain't gonna try to pawn none of that billet **** - 'cos i ain't gonna pay the freight - basically if you can't handle a little ribbing - then your gonna struggle so run hard, tackle hard and if ya don't like it take your ball and go home.
Try getting out and actually meeting alot of these guys (and girls). Maybe I'm just in a lucky spot living in Michigan, but we are a pretty good group of people. If someones got sumpthin, we give it up to those who need it. We can pick on each other, just as we can support each other. The HAMB is what you make of it. If ya wanna sit around and mope cause you catch some ****, use the time you'd be here to work on your car in the garage, then post the pix of what ya got done. That'll get ya instant response, usually to the good. Unless you're putting a 2.8 in a Fleetline. Oops, that slipped. It's just words, typed by people. You can't portray sarcasm, kidding, etc. thru words. You have to know the people personally to know who's kidding and who's not. When I go to a car show, I talk to owners of cars that I like when I get the chance. Y'know, just basic "car guy" questions & compliments. I don't walk up to a guy & say "Hi, my name is _______ & I grew up around hot rods & I've built ** amount of cars & I live in Bum****, Egypt & my favorite color is ______". And I have never been "bashed" yet by a guy because I didn't give a proper intro before I just walked up & said something to him. Same thing at a bar- I don't give people my ****ing life story before I say something to them. This is an online car show/bar & some of the guys here need to lighten up.

Sounds like some of these newbies need to turn on their sarcasm detectors. The old farts here are just testing them to see what they're made of. I don't have a problem with newbies getting flamed. If you're brave or dumb enough to inflict some rival prodding, deal. On the other hand, initiation or not, regs should be prepared to encounter newbies that bite back and excercise willingness to realize this is a message board, not a bar and that flames thrown back are not a challenge to tell someone "I'm gonna kick your ***" or any of the other **** I've seen in my short tenure here. Regs should check their skin thickness too.
