Just kidding about the magnate bit. But, honestly, I am the guy who's responsible for telling the world that my family's business is still kickin' in the drive-in theatre game. Back in the 50s and 60s my wife's dad and his partners built about 40 single screen drive-ins, mostly in the south western states. Over the years the number of locations has come down to 7, but each theatre now has a minimum of 3 screens, with a total of 29 screens remaining. We love out theatres, and thank God they're making box office again. Couple of years ago, we decided to fix up the old "ozoners" and now it's starting to pay off. Attendance is up, and folks appreciate the improvements we've made -- like the brightest and sharpest projection available, FM stereo broadcast sound, "A' rated snack bars, and clean restrooms. We play mostly double feature programs -- all the current movies -- at a bargain price, $6 for adults with kids 9 and under admitted free. The only thing we're missing is GREAT CARS, so come on by, check us out. We'd like to be your cruisin' place. If you like what you see, let's talk. Here's the details on where we're located and theatre contact info. Welcome to the HAMB, Frank. Im a huge fan of drive in theaters and feel very fortunate that one still exists a couple miles from my house. Taking the car to the drive in is one of my ten year old daughters favorite things to do-- as was the same with me when i was a kid. I will definately make it a point to visit one of your drive-in's when im in the area. Hats off to you for helping keep a valuable tradition alive. -scott noteboom
I love drive ins. As a broke college kid in Santa Cruz, CA, the drive-in was a real affordable place for a date and other things . I hope that Cars the movie premier happens. I'll watch for the HAMB post. WELCOME!
Hey Frank! What about a Tiki Theme Drive-In? Has it ever been done? It would be irresistable! Feel free to accept millions of free unsolicated ideas. Anyone here will be glad to assist. What is an "ozoner"?
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh I remember our drive in theater called the CREST Drive in. Fucking car dealerships moved in across the street and killed it with their bright lights. Anyone got a gas can and a match? You are my new hero, welcome to the madness that is.
Hi Benzine440, Check out our Mission Tiki Drive-in at www.missiontiki.com -- your wish is our command! An "ozoner" is 1950s slang for a drive-in theatre -- derivation is from the smell of ozone from the old high power carbon arc projectors we used to use back then.
