First of all, I dont know sh*t about nothing, so I'm here to get schooled:eek: . I have a 64 T-bird that I plan on getting started on this spring. I have already shaved the handles, emblems and such. I hope to cut the roof off in early summer and weld the skirts, fenders (to rockers) and hood scoop end to the body to get a smoother look. The car is mostly stock with a 390 and c4 trans. I would like to run some factory t-bird spokes with a wide WW and lower the car about 2 inches. Anyways, that enough rambling, just wanted to hello.

I'll either have bags in the rear to raise it or drop the rear end  . The car wont be a daily, so hopefully tire changes will be infrequently.

To change the rear tires with welded skirts he'll have to do something like a 4 link and then deflate the ****ers. NOT what I'd call FUN in any way shape or form.....sound familar Cmore??:D Then cutting the top off of a car means that you have to support the body otherwise you'll have gaps wide enough to stuff a bible into. Gunna have to support the frame with more cross members.....Otherwise the body will sag. I'd run with pinner whites and wheels as opposed to wide whites.

    Anyways, welcome to the hamb.

Just to have the welded skirts would be worth it to me. As far as the top goes, I plan on running subframe connecters, a brace from each rear wheel house and run tube brace in the 1/4 panels, by the rear seat.Whats "pinner" whites?

Don't take it wrong, I'm not picking on you for lopping the top off a car..........I did it to my 58 Chevy.:D

Pinner whites are the tire with a thin white line around them. They are usually run with Astros and look ***s on a bellflower style car or a 60's car.

I use to run the astros with the thin white wall ( didn't know they had a specific name), I started getting leaks from the spoke area and just put the stockers back on. That is a awesome car there and I dont offend easily.:) Did the 58 sag a whole lot, or did you know to brace it properly?

I stole the one from that ****hole motel I got stuck in, in Austin.........Rusty Red Ram collects them, figured I owed him. When I went to post it out, the lady says, wanna insure it? I said NAH, I stole the damn thing anyways.........thought I was gunna get clubbed by the women behind me.:D

The 58 SAGGED like a wore out *****. Course it has the infamous X frame under it and it's a MAMMOTH car........I'm STILL fixing my ****ups on it. I'll be running pinners on it. That green machine is a 60 Starliner owned by Macs55 on the hamb.

That ****s about the sagging, how are you gonna fix it? Is the frame boxed from the factory? I know the lowrider guys weld strips of metal to the frame to give it strength for the hydros.

I'll have to square the car up and hope she pops back into shape. But honestly I've got myself into a pickle. Only convertible frames come boxed from the factory.....and mine was a 4 door sedan. Which means I'll be doing the boxing on the frame and converting it from the horrid X frame to a ladder frame. Get rid of the 2 piece drive shaft in the process.........ALTHO, I do find them easier to work with then a single piece driveshaft.

Sounds like you've got your workcut out for you,any pics? Everytime I see a 4 dr, cutting the top off and welding the back doors seems so natural to hide the fact its a 4 dr.

Until I get it further along it'll stay a convert..........then I'll add a top. I'll just flip the old one around and use it.
