I just introduced my self on the main board . I found this site from post by JeffB2 on some other sites and Google while trying to get some info on swaping an AOD to a 56 Ford Crown Vic. so i decided to join this group. I have a 56 Crown I bought off of E-bay It was supposed to be a driver needing just a little work but after purchasing a parts car I found out how wore out it was I decided to restore it. It became a major project. It's going back togeather "one piece at a time" to become a driver.I am new to using forums and computers and using searches etc so any pointers I can get is appreciated. How can I get the search to show only stuff on an AOD swap? I entered AOD swap but nothing comes up.
    Thanks
    Duane

Welcome from So Cal. Sounds like a good project, 56 is my favorite year. I think we all get bit when buying a car sight unseen, I know I did with my 56.
For the search, you might try using "trans swap" or something similar.
    Do you have any pictures?

As of right now I am planning on a 56 312. It's at the engine builders new .30 pistions bearings, etc and balanceing 113 heads and 1957AFB carb, intake and dist.Still have to decide on which cam. If (and I'm pretty sure I will)I go to the Aod I may put in a late model 5.0. I'm working on a 91 T bird donor car for the swap. I can get the 5.0 rebuilt for close to what a Y block to aod adapter will cost unless the 5.0 is toast The only pictures I have is when I bought it.I don't know how to post them anyway. It's been 100% diss***embled and is just now going back togeather. What a learning experence it been but enjoyable.

Welcome to the best group from Abbottstown , Pa .
I have a 55 Fairlane but will have a 56 dash in it . Mine has a well built 302 with a C4 . My car was also off that damn auction site and I emailed the owner many , many times asking every questions I could think of and he told me they were all repaired ! Well it was the best cover up in history ! It was basically a death trap . I picked the car up and made it 2 miles down the road before the radiator went up and towed it home .
Of all the things to look for , take a POINTED HAMMER to the front crossmember bottom and start hitting it hard with the point ! You will need to replace the front crossmember unless someone already did or it's a car from southern California ! That is very common in a 55/56 ! Once I finish my car I will post lots of pictures for all to see the Nightmare I am going through with mind but will be as safe as it was new when I am done !
Anyway tell us more about the engine and trans and what your plans are for your 56 ! They are great cars to drive when done .

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and to you also the-stig for the info I'll get the battery charged on the camera and see what i can get posted . Well I made the deal on the T-bird ,started driving it home and made it to the gas station about a mile or so it died and wouldn't start back up(dead battery) so will get the trailer and haul it home today. The 56 will get the AOD for sure.Dan at Silverfox is lined up to rebuild it and convert it to have the 4R70W guts. I'm still undecided on what engine to use. The cross member and frame is about the the only thing I wont have to replace.
