Hello all, I recently bought a project for my daughter and I to work on. I'm no stranger to working on cars, but am relatively new to restoring antique vehicles. I'm researching this project now to find out more info about it. I look forward to browsing the wealth of knowledge here.
welcome... Inform us on what you bought ?... there is a wealth of information here.. but remember it's traditional Hot Rod & Custom forum .. Good luck with the project
Welcome to the HAMB from the PNW. I think you’re going to find all the answers you need here. Also, as we say here on the HAMB, pictures or it didn’t happen.
Welcome aboard the best car community on the Web, incredible knowledge on here. Pictures of the project are needed. Good luck.
Welcome from CT. Much knowledge and experience here that help me and should work for you as well. Folks here appreciate seeing a photo of your project.
Ok, here are a few pictures of the project truck. It's currently titled as a '49, but as y'all will see there there are a number of things about it that say differently. I am trying to research exactly what I have.
At the moment we're gonna just try to get it running and driving. Possibly doing as a resto-mod down the road. My daughter and I haven't had a chance to sit down and figure it all out yet. I, personally, would like to keep the original look in the end though.
It's your vehicle to do with as you want but you do realize that resto-mods are way off topic here? I'd love to follow along on your journey to get it up and going though. I hope your daughter enjoys the experience. My daughter works with me on my projects, and I sure wouldn't be as far along as I am without her.
Thats easy. You got a old shivrola truck, pre '64, straight 6, with a chrome "grill" and a smashed up right front fender.
I learned to drive on my Dad’s ‘49. It’s life ended with an engine swapped out of a ‘51 coupe a local farmer had dead parked earlier. Loved that truck. My dad bought it from a Chevy dealer from his home town. They used the truck to chase parts for the dealership. The story goes that the rear end gave out and they replaced the ring gear but did not bother to replace the pinion. My Dad bought it from them when it was 3 years old. Long story short, you could hear my Dad coming home as when he slowed down, the rear announced his arrival. Otherwise, the truck gave him over 20 years of service. The Doors on your truck tell me ‘51 or newer but these could have been changed years back. Likewise, the engine appears to be ‘53 or newer but I’m no expert on this. have fun!
