So I've lurked around here a while, thought I'd show my project, my 56 stepside. Bought it a few years back after I moved to Tucson, original straight 6 and 3 on the tree. Drove it around a while, producing an oil slick the Exxon Valdez would be proud of. transmission shaft rounded off on the linkage one day, had to drive home in third gear the whole way. Parked it for 2 years since I don't have a garage till I could finally get going on it.
I was just going to pull the******* and fix it(who's heard that before) but it has turned into a frame off reconstruction. Started with a big back window cab, then a camaro clip, completely rebuilt the front end. Had to put ride tech shock waves on the front, boxed the front portion of the frame, and picked up some weld front wheels. I have a 454 and a t400******* to put in, but am considering a small block and 700******* just for cruising.Next up is the rear, 4 link and bags.
Time is my enemy, just don't have enough , and am working on a Willys jeep I've had for over twenty years. I will try to get up some pics, Mike.

Welcome from the highlands of Prescott.
For my two cents, I would go with a small block if you expect to drive it regularly.
I guess it's because I'm on a fixed income now, but paying for gas is something I hate to do. My love for BIG BLOCK anything is in the past. I put a 460 in a great short bed Ford P.U. Yea it was a stump puller O.K. but it*****ED the gas. I regretted not going with a 302 or 351W.
    Good luck with your project!
