What a great forum, it's just what I needed to continue fueling my hot rod passion. Me: lifelong addiction to hot rods and cars in general. Am now full time in my shop since retiring after 35 years of government service. No "I'm from the government and here to help" jokes please! I promised myself I would build another hot rod after retirement and I found a 29 A pickup this summer. It really spoke to me since it's the same thing I built when I was 18 years old...forty years ago. I'm really excited about it. I've only recently started the build and it's going quite well. More on it later. Anyway, it's great to be here.

  2. Welcome from Cheney WA, sounds like a good project. What are the plans for the pickup?

Thank you all so far. As far as the truck, I've already gutted the old suspension and transplanted the underpinnings from a Merkur XR 4ti. Why from an XR4ti?
    1. Independent front and rear
    2. Everything in front (lower control arm, steering rack and sway bar) is contained to one crossmember and mounts with six bolts (including struts). Had to shorten struts (5 inches) to keep them hidden under the fenders.
    3. Everything in rear (lower control arm, hubs, center section and sway bar) is contained to a common beam and mounts with six bolts.
    4. I'm very familiar with XR 4ti's and have lots of parts.
    5. Track width is within 1/2" of Model A.
    6. Rear disc brake conversion for less than $200.
    7. Rock Auto and Autozone has parts.
    8. Should be awesome ride and handling.
    9. Motor to be based off of 2.3 Ford, I have a few spare race motors laying around.
    10. 5 speed tranny
    11. Not sure on paint yet, may just do some patina for a while
    12. Re-drilled the hubs for 5 x 4-1/2 and did 15x5 (front) and 15x6 steelies in the rear
