Using the release of the Mustang as the birth of the muscle car era, '64 is usually the year we use. '48 would be a perfect milestone for a postwar car, but totally loses the entire 50's era: early caddy and olds OHV motors, the introduction of the SBC, Hemis...this stuff was crucial to traditional hot rodding. I'm not trying to run him into run-of-the-mill Chevy ********, but since it was mentioned that cost could be a concern, I threw it out there. The exorbitant cost of early caddy and olds motors is what left them out of my argurment. I didn't catch much flack for running the Mopar in mine, probably because most people that know that it's not a Y Block recognize the amount of work it took to get it in there; and therefore respect it, even if they don't agree with it. Running a Ford in a Ford is fine, and rodding is about doing what you like. BUT, since this guy asked my opinion on the matter, I gave it to him.

  2. Yer gonna need a big pocket book. Dig deep!

My bud rebuild a SBC for what my heads cost. I bought 5 blocks before I ofund a good one. Now I have 6 in the garage. Lil *******s multiply

You were on the cheap, right track b4, small block anything, auto, discs, Pete & Jakes, gold chains, trailer....etc

  3. Yeah, listen to 57whatever, visionary of all things traditional. And by all means, dont do what you like, make sure you get it approved here first. I completely ruined my car with a 289.

Your car has a hood dip****, re-read my post. You also didn't come on here asking my opinion, in which i would have told you the same thing.

We're losing sight of the original intent of this thread. Read our Friend Skibo's profile. He drives a Honda. He likes to tinker with cars, and is new to traditional rods and kustoms. I doubt "Build what you want and drive the hell out of it" is the kind of detailed information he was looking for.

If he wants to build his car with a sbf, he certainly has a right to do so, and I'll respect his decision. All I'm saying, as have others here on this thread, that there are better choices which he may not know of.

hey joe didnt we just finish puttin a sbf in MY custom. should i cry and moan cuz you said its not traditional. no. cuz im 19 and have more common sense than half the 40 yr olds on this board that have been doin this for how long. ya its ugly **** it it runs who cares and theres a hood on it so no one can see it. plus im not a gold chainer and i never lift my hood at a show.

and for the record everyone has a hard on for pre 64 this pre 64 that. guess what sbf came out in 62 and looks the exact same as the 5.0L in your grandmas town car. so can we all drop the act, stop crying and let the kid run what he wants.

sbf - easily accessible, cheap (cost me like 500 to put mine in) and can go fast too. there said and done

  6. OK, I'm a dip**** and my car looks terrible and not traditional...and you're from New Jersey, a 25 year old punk law intern and have no clue what your trying to say here, stepped all over yourself trying to be cool...you wouldnt know my car had a hood with looking at my avitar. Do your homework counselor, Case Closed.

take in some knowledge build yourself a car. learn from your mistakes refine it on the next one. this wont be the only car you build.you cant enjoy it till you drive it and if you listen to everyone you'll never get anything done.

Traditional is sticking what you have into what you want while doing as much as you can by yourself or with buddies. Get it done and drive it. Learn something about the car and yourself as you go along. Have fun.

There are points to be made about what's period correct and what isn't. If you want period correct, stick a 50's motor in it with a buzz box and a blue flame torch. Chop it with a hacksaw. Then paint it with laquer.

Or you can build it with the Ford and park it next to me when I get mine done.
I'm useing a small block Ford too. Might even (The Horror of it!) use a Vega box.

pssst...I know I went to school a long time ago, but I remember some math..... 1984 - 2005 is 21, not 25. When arguing with a punk law intern it's best to have the facts straight. ("specially if it involves a SBF):D
57fomoparsoso - if you take fat***withoutabuick's post as insulting, you may want to look into a career change - or at least turn down the sensitivity knob. Did you reallyread what he wrote?

"DO NOT use any non EARLY hemi or non wedge Plymouth." You spent a lot of bandwidth arguing for exactly what he said, even if it was a typo.
