I just followed the frame build here and have a question to the group.... If you build your own frame and piece together a customer 1932 roadster from swap meet pieces... How do you ***le it?

You can go the route of getting your DMV to issue a ***le for a new vehicle or buy a "historic do***ent." It's your choice whether you prefer the h***le or want to spend the $.

Do you mean you are building a car for a customer?

Here in NM you get the state to issue a vin as a reconstructed vehical. It is illeagal in NM and I'm sure in a lot of states to use a purchased ***le (stamping a vin yourself is a BIG no-no), might get away with it but if they find out they will take your car away! Personally, I'd try do do it legal.

Try to find an old ***le that is similar to whichever frame you have and go from there. It is a rat race if you try to go through the DMV, or at least in Iowa it is. Let us know what you decide.

Now the fun part: you sell it, and the new owner gets caught after a bad accident.
Guess who owns the smoking wreck?
Guess who has to give the purchase price back?
Guess who owes his lawyer $10,000 for trying to keep him out of jail?
    That's right.

What are you smoking?? I want some...

There are about 400,000 32 fords on the road today with ***les that were based on "historical do***ents" and you don't even have to stamp it into the rails. Just put a tag on the car with the number somewhere. Use your HF metal stamps and have a nice day. Now, if we include Model-T's and Model-A's, there's probably millions.

Always have your tag agent or dmv do a search to find out if the vehicle in the ***le is stolen, already issued, or has any liens on it. If it does, then don't use it to build your car, or don't buy the ***le in the first place.
