  3. WOW :eek::eek::eek:

    Increadable amount of work and calculations went into that machine so far.

    My hat (and your top) are off to you.

    That will certainly astound some Edsel purists.

    cool. i love retractable hardtops, and edsels. for some reason combinining them never crossed my mind. any specs on the build up? ford turned into a Edsel (as ford did)? edsel with ford top added?

    in response to the specs on the build up, I am using as much edsel as possible. cowl is from an edsel ranger 2 dr hdtp with the top of the windsheild frame from a 58 retractable grofted to it. the trans tunnel is retractable and the rest of the floor is all new steel complete. trunk area (of course) is from the retractable as is the roof and mechanism. rear quarted are from a rust free edsel carcass. using edsel suspansion with the larger than ford bolt pattern. I used the edsel cowl as there are subtle difs from the ford and of the other 3 edsel retractable out there (yes 3 others did this b4) mine will be the most "if edsel had built". yes it is a lot of work but i want more than just a retractable with an edsel front clip.
    Happy Edseling!!

    cool expect those extra fins at back, does not fit there at all visually ! sorry , just my opinion. If your frame is from Edsel, then it is edsel, if it is from ford, it is ford !

    Welcome aboard here!

    That's a pretty cool project you have! Are you planning on removing the Ford fins? Doing so would make it look so much better IMO.

    well, no the fins are staying as the edsel prototype. The other 3 edsel retractables out there, 2 have fins, one don't...the one without fins is the ugliest of the 3...so i went with the fins. They are part of the quarter and in order to remove them, makes the deck lid sit up anout 2 inches on top of plane of the the top of the fenders...very un-attractive.

    Here is another Edsel retractable that was created as a "what if" car. It was built in the 1980's by a gentleman named Galen Weber. It is very much like your car - front clip, dash, quarter panels, rear end and tail lights were all taken from a donor Edsel and incorporated onto a Ford Retractable body. Yes, the fins remain on my car, too. The craftsmanship is excellent, and the car remains in outstanding condition both cosmetically and mechanically. I've owned the car for about 10 years.

    Feel free to contact me if this car can help you with any aspect of your build.

    AH yes...wasn't that bad if you remove the whole wirirng loom and make sure it's all good, check all the switches one by one and go thru all the motors...then hook it all up and it just works (you're right, it was a pain).
    Don't forget the edsel tele touch too...the first one is a pain, then they get pretty simple to understand.
