Newbie with 34 Ford Pickup

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by Bob Van Guilder, Jan 1, 2019.

  1. Hi, I’m Bob. Here goes my intro. 75 now. Born in Australia, moved to New Orleans when I was 15. After graduation spent 6 years in the Air Force. Got out and went to work for my current employer (40+ years in commercial air conditioning sales). Retired for six years and now back at work.

Been a car guy all my life. Mostly mid-year Corvettes until about 15 years ago. Got interested in the 50s and 60s that I grew up with. Currently have a 42 Chevy 1-1/2 ton flat bed restored original with the exception of a 350 and 700R (see pic). Also have a very nice 68 Impala Wagon. Also all original except for CPP suspension.

I know, you are wondering what I am doing here. Well, I have always had a hankering for a flathead powered early Ford. Dream came true 3 months ago with a barn find 34 Ford Pickup in southern Louisiana. All original (except for a 46 motor), rust free and complete with decent paint. New fuel system, distributor and fluid changes got it running and driving. Building it into a traditional rod. During my Googling for early Ford info I came across the HAMB. This site has been unbelievable for an early Ford newbie. Found Nostalgia Sid on here and he has worked his magic on the front suspension and provided the brake conversion stuff. Motor checked out good. 120 per cylinder (almost exactly), 40 pounds oil pressure and runs at 160 with the original radiator. Found Red’s on here and waiting on headers and sling shot intake from them. Dash is done. Shopping for wheels and tires. Starting wiring. Some pics below. Thanks for all the help

    Bob
