I am hear to find out information and start the build on my 1941 Chevrolet 2 door sedan. right now it is in storage on blocks. In a few years I hope to have a seude painted seaform green with wide whites and velour(or seude) interior. One: I would like to see other 41 chevy kustoms and street rods, but I have find a lot of online site to find a lot of good looking cars. any suggestions that you guys have found? Two: I have a couple of current debates on what I want to do. I want a good all around car to cruise with my kids. should I try to stick with a straight six or go for the V8? When I upgrade with MII should I go for weld in or bolt in(to preserve the car for later)? I appreciate any and all info. Thanx
First: Welcome to the HAMB!!!!! Second: You shoulda put your Intro post in the "New to the HAMB? Introduce yourself here!" Section (at the top of the main page.) A little late for that now, but it's all good! Third: Your 41 sounds cool! And FWIW, don't worry about "saving it for a return to stock". Pretty much anything you do to make it safer/more dependable/better driving will only improve it's value, not hurt it. (This goes for cash value as well as the "fun factor".) Small block Chevys dang near grow on trees, so that makes parts availability real good, and they are very dependable if you plan to drive it. However, because they're so prevalent, they have almost become boring. If you want to keep a six, go with a 54-later one for long-term dependability. For the MII, I have been very impressed with the bolt-in kits from Ch***is Engineering. They are beefed up a little better than most weld-in kits I've seen, and typically their products fit better than most compe***ors. Plus, their kits are height-adjustable. Show us some pics of your car... we like pictures! (Doesn't matter if it's "in-progress" or not.) 41 Chevys are one of the few pre-49 cars that I think look good as a sedan. Again, Welcome!!!!!
Thanx for info. I am sorry, i didn't notice the sub-forum. I will go introduce myself in a few minutes. I have always wondered what the best years for the straight six are, so thank you for the that. From what I have heard and seen so far. C.E. products are good quality parts that many people have had luck with. As you will read in the intro post, i got luck with the 41. But I really think it is the best looking pre 55 chevy. I am not a big fan of the 39,40 because I like the headlight sunk into the fender. And I am not a big fan of the 42 front's Anyway thanx for the info. I want to hear from even more people.
Welcome to the HAMB (even if you missed the right intro spot) and good luck with your '41 Chevy. I'm going to echo what Slide said even though I'm not a Chevy fan. The good old 350 SBC is an affordable and dependable powerplant and anything you can do to make the car perfom more safely is benefit. You'll have more fun and probably increase the value of the car if you rod it. But look at it this way - you like the car and its yours. Do what you'd like to do with it. You don't have to answer to anyone about how you build it. Just build it safe and enjoy it with your family. Let the kids help out whenever you can. This is a great hobby or lifestyle if you take that far. Lots of good folks on the board and anythign you'd ever need to know can be answered right hear. Thousands of experts - real and self appointed (that'd be me) - can't be wrong. Have fun and post some pictures. We love pictures around these parts.
Hi, I see you found the place, welcome! I also see you broke the cardinal rule (like the rest of us did), which is to sit back and read and get a feel of the place for a year or two before making your first post. Ah well, baptism by fire. Back to the car questions...you might even find some folks on here who could suggest front suspension setups other than MII. And if you do go with a later Stovebolt six, such as the full-pressure lube 54-up engine, you'll have to deal with the water pump, as the engines you'll find are from 55-62, which use the longer water pump that mounts to the block different than the earlier cars. Use the "search" function to see if you can find some older threads on these cars....
Though I used a stock Ford crossmember for the MII on my 52 Chevy, I did use the CE rear leaf spring kit, and I am extremely pleased with it. Good people to deal with, too. And yeah, there's lots to learn here. The HAMB's search function can be one of the best tools in your garage... even if it's really in your living room!
Thanx for the welcome guys. I probably should have set back for a little while, but I figure since I was asking about information, and not providing an opinion, it MIGHT be safe. In any fashion, I feel more comfortable around street rodders than most other car guys. Although I haven't yet built a car I have been around car shows and hot rodders for about half my life. I am just know getting the time, money and knowledge to feel I can start and finish a proper rebuild. Anyway, about the search. I tried the search before I posted. I searched for "41 chevy", 41 chevrolet, etc. , but it kick the 41 out and just search for chevy, which returns a few threads. How should I have search for 41 chevy? Or should I just search for the parts, such as MII suspension, or C.E. crossmember, etc.
Searching for the parts/procedures usually works best for me. (i.e. Disc Brakes, flat paint, welding, etc.) Heads up: "street rod" is a dirty word to a lotta people here. In case you haven't, you might consider reading this. (Not trying to give you a hard time... just giving you an orientation session! )
No hard time taken. I understand and will heed all rules. Trust that I will be setting back a watching for a while. Just so you know, the quick post soon after arriving was to answer some questions from other forums (squirrel pointed me to this forum) and that age old garage debate a**** friends. Honestly, so far I really like this forum and the rules. Please considered this an apology for the quick post. Thank You.
