    Hello,
I was introduced to the HAMB by a friend and I like what I see. I am a superintendent of schools in Peabody, Kansas and have been a hot rodder for most of my life. My friend suggested that I check out the HAMB to maybe post information about a new program that we have started at our high school. This past fall, I hired a professional car builder to work in our high school for 4 hours each day under the supervision of our vocational agriculture instructor. His job is to work with students to build a 1932 Ford roadster. Curently we have about 12 kids involved in the project and our projected completion date is May 1, 2009. In addition to the program, we started a car club (The Peabody-Burns Road Warriors) so that adults in our community and the surrounding area can become involved and support the students with the project.
Our initial idea was to provide an opportunity for at-risk high school students to learn some skills and become involved in a school-based organization to hopefully improve atendance and school involvement (not all of us are star athlete material).
We have received significant support from vendors such as Pete and Jake's Hot Rod Parts and John's Industries. A local salvage yard donated an engine and a transmission that we are rebuilding. We have taken field trips to Pete and Jakes, a race track in Kansas City and a local transmission repair shop. We plan to exhibit the rolling project at the Starbird show in Wichita this January and we are hoping to take a field trip this spring to Lincoln, Nebraska to see Speedy Bill's museum. After showing, driving and enjoying the car for a year, we hope to sell it in the summer of 2010 when our second project (possibly a 29 phaeton on deuce rails) is completed.
I am new to posting but I will try to attach some photos of the kids, the car and their club logo. We had club shirts printed and I think they look great. Also we are planning a poker run for January 1, 2009 and I will also try to post the flyer for the event.
We are really excited about the program and it is already having an impact. Each evening, the instructor has to make the kids go home.

I am sure the kids would love to see some shops and cars in Wichita. Maybe after the Christmas break we could plan a day. Chris went with us to KC and I think he had a good time.

Now I want to go back to high school but I want to go to your high school....Great to see that your community is supportive and that the kids are into the project and that you are providing inovative leadership for your school......

  15. Welcome to the Hamb. It is going to be cool to see more post on this '32 roadster build.

All that my automotive class in high school ever worked on were cars like the AMC Pacer, and Ford Pintos.
