I need help wiring my Newport wiper switch as I have lost the instructions. The issue is the intermittent wiper switch. There are 4 colored wires white, blue, yellow, red, with connectors that attach to the motor, that part is obvious. The motor is wired to 12v, There are two wires remaining to be connected coming out of the switch. A black lead and a brown lead. I would imagine the black is going to my ground bus under the dash, and the brown lead? I tried their website and they have no tech articles and I couldn't find the answer on a google search or a HAMB search. Hopefully one of you is in the know. I could wait until Monday and call them, but I really want to get some wiring done today and this switch has to go in next. @Crazy Steve you have your ears on?
I found one schematic, not Newport specific but it indicates the brown lead powers a windshield squirter, which I do not have, So I will ground the black and tape up the brown. If I have that wrong feel free to interject.
I would say that is correct. Does the switch have a push or pull function? You should be able to confirm this with a meter if so by checking between the power and brown wires. The ground is needed to complete the circuit for the intermittent function which should be internal to the switch.
Seeing the diagram in post 5, I would think that the wipers should function without the ground wire connected, you just won't have the intermittent part. That appears to be the 'base' switch.
Mine is the same wiring schematic as above with the added caution: Ground motor and the mounting bracket, run a dedicated ground wire from the adjustment screw on the motor to a grounding lug on your fuse panel or a ch***is ground.
I believe this is same switch: https://www.partdeal.com/cole-herse...-wiper-switch-off-park-bulk-pkg-75600-04.html Scroll down to Product Specifications and Wiring.
It does, push for squirters. Since I am not running squirters I may hook that lead up to a pump and a bottle of crown royal under the seat, and a dash dispenser. Like my father told me about ***, if it hurts, you're doing it wrong. I figure the same is true on the HAMB, if you're not having fun, you aint doing it right! Yep, Newport offers 3 switches, top of the line is the intermittent switch which is a 3" square box. I taped up the brown and grounded the black. It makes sense it was for the washers, but I read something about the "park" function that had me concerned. Thanks to all that responded. I used a ford f100 bezel and the chrome retainer with the slots in the top side to secure the switch, after I tapped some new threads in it. I had to whoop up an install tool which I made from a br*** fitting I had lying about. Then just slip a 3/4 socket over it and wrench it down. That s tool box "keeper".
You know I didn't notice the silver inside the cut till you said that. Glad I chopped it up! I have a memorial to attend this evening, so I am wrapping things up in the shop to say good by to a guy that dies far too young. Wasn't even 50 yet. Heart attack. Dying ****s. Live long and prosper my friend.
I made one of those "tools" years ago out of a cheap deep 1/4" drive socket.......always pays to have free cheap sockets lying around. I used the Newport wiper on my Panel truck and sourced a Cole Hersee switch off of eBay, the wire colors matched the motor from Newport (I used everything but the washer wire). I also made the stock knob work on the switch, I mainly bought the switch so I could have delay.
