Sincerest and deepest condolences to family and friends.

Never met the man but Rodder's Digest was always my favorite magazine. It had such a down home personal feel to it. Now I have to find all the issues I don't have yet. He will always live in my memory thru his words.

And I can't help bet think of him every time I see or hear about Big Olds. I don't think he could have a better caretaker/owner than Denise.

    God speed Steve, R.I.P.

  3. I can't express how sad I am that Steve has left us.

He was a good friend, and mentor. His words of encouragement, and kudos on the cars I have built in the past 7 or 8 years helped me to make them what they were.

To his wife and kids... Steve was a wonderful husband and father... I could tell it when he was out here visiting in California. If I remember correctly, you were over in SF... and he couldn't stay long because he didn't want to make his vacation with you guys a "car vacation". I know it may have seemed at times that he loved cars more than anything else, but from his actions that day I can tell you that that wasn't true.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
    Sam.

  5. I too never met Steve face-to-face, but we exchanged several emails when I was finishing up the Big Olds......Steve made me feel like an old friend. :(
His work has touched so many people over the years, entertaining, and giving goobers like me inspiration--'we' have lost a good guy.
    I'm really sad right now.........

I met Steve at Kalamazoo a few years ago, after dinner one night we went into a Barnes and Noble bookstore and he was looking at the car magazines. I said hey Steve, checkin out the compe***ion eh? and he laughed, we talked for about half an hour like he had known me forever. A great guy and a great writer........ Rest In Peace Steve......

Like many here on the HAMB I've been thinking about "Just Steve" alot tonight and just reflecting on the times we spent together. It wasn't many but they were quality. We laughed alot, he told me Big Olds build stories and I told him what I had recently done and was planning on doing next. It seemed like we had known each other our whole lives when in fact it was only a few years.

He was a very special guy and I will miss him terrribly. Even though looking at this picture right now makes me very sad I know in the future it will become one of my favorites because when I look at it it reminds me of all that Steve means to me, the good times we spent together and the gift of Big Olds.

I feel the need to share it right now.

  13. Condolences to the family, he was just too young to go, but I am sure the Lord has a special place for him.

I feel really terrible about this...

Steve was so supportive... in everything... he even came out to Menomonie to our car shows we were putting on when we were in college. I'm gonna miss his BIG smile. Damn it.

Steve...A super nice guy who will be sorely missed.... I enjoyed reading his tech articles, and bought more than a few subs to "Rodder's Digest" along with the T shirts he sold at Kazoo years back. It's so neat that my son Dan and I were finally able to see in person "Project Big Olds" at Kazoo this past year after years of reading about her in RD. (Thanks for showing up Denise and sharing your story with me)..

My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I only knew Steve through an exchange of eMails, but that was enough to consider him a friend and a really good guy.

I wish I had words strong enough to express how much I liked the man, and how sad I am to hear of his p***ing.

To his family, I wish for peace and serenity in the wake of this awful interruption.

    To Steve: Happy landings, buddy.

  20. How sad, what a waste....My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

    RIP.

  21. Whilst I'm a 'world away', Steve had an impact, and whilst I never met him in the flesh, he will be missed far and wide.

Godspeed to Steve, and our thoughts are with his family and close friends.

Steve = p***ionate rodder, and great guy.

My thoughts are with Steve's family. It's a loss to humanity to lose a guy so young that had such an positive impact on so many peoples lives. However, it's also such a good validation of the greatness of humanity to see all you folks come together in support a fellow hot rodder.... RIP.

I never met Steve but the day he registered on the hamb has always stuck in my mind. It is one of the few posts that clearly stuck in my mind. It was a great and humble intro. I had no idea of who this guy was till much after.

This is truly a sad loss.

    Godspeed Steve.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers on this one Bob . May Steve's family find comfort in knowing others truly cared about him. This is a great loss to our world and I will be sure to honor him this weekend and the event I will be at with a nice drive with my ride.....

  27. Sad news. His family is in my prayers.

I didn't know him, but but discovered that, ohmygosh, he's the author of one of my favorite hot rod books: "The Hot Rodder's Bible" It is an awesome book with more valuable informantion that you could ever imagine. I guess I should pay more attention. I hope the royalties still go to his family. Mayby everyone here who hasn't bought a copy yet should do so.
