Don Waite, who was Vice President Engineering at Edelbrock from 1990-95, raced an Edelbrock-equipped 160-mph 1927 Model-T Roadster. His car was the first rear engine modified at bonneville.
Called "The Edelbrock Special" the roadster was equipped with an Edelbrock 4-carb intake, Edelbrock heads and pistons. Using nitromethane, this 1927 Model-T went 192 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Don Waite's "Edelbrock Special" is now under restoration.
Does anyone have any other info/magazines etc. on this one ?

Last one, big thanks to Hot Rod Magazine, Sept. '50. The Edelbrock ad is from the same issue it was featured in.

LB, that's unfreaking real. I'd like to know more about how it survived.

How does a car like that survive 55 years intact with the original tires still on it? Did the original owner just stuff it away and forget about it?

L B......Thanks for posting the pic of that historical car!! I thought I recognized it the moment I saw it but forgot the details.

Mutt.........Thanks for posting the Hot Rod spread on the car. Man, that really took me back. I recognize just about every old layout in about any rod mag from back then. It always amazes me that the old magazine spreads left such an indelible mark in my brain. I guess it's because I just kept going through them over and over so many times when I was a kid!:)

How about the story on this...where has it been, what has it been through since the glory days, and so on.

I find that sort of thing interesting...maybe it's just me though?

Who's restoring this car? Is it Don Himself? This guy lives around the corner from me on Oak, & I've left him messages for call backs Re: the PRC reliability run #6 last year, The reunion that we had the year before & this years #7 Run. Can't seem to get ahold of him.
The nose from that car hung in Antique Auto in Rosemead for years, Jim Gordon presented back to him I think like 5-6 yrs ago. Still was wearing the Purple Paint, (love that color) Bitchen Car! I'm glad it's getting restored.:D

The simplicity is what kills me. It just flows like liquid. I wish they still made cars that actually make you feel something when you look at them.

I just had a terriable thought, I looked at the first photo in this thread and wonder if Coddington is doing the "restoration".

The really amazing thing is how many of these historically significant cars have survived. How they dodged being cut up, scrapped or parted out is a real mind warp. I keep recalling how Jim Jacobs found the Neikamp roadster under a pile of crap and almost forgotten. It had a Buick engine transplant and a few modifications but still reasonably intact. He restored that car before it was popular to return historical hot rods to their former glory. Now, if you don't use every nut and bolt that was origonally on the car your a butcher that has no soul. :)
I've been in every garage I can think of looking for Stu Hilborn's roadster. I'm sure it's around here somewhere. I've got a plan to trade it for a cool hot rod
that's owned by the guy looking for Stu's old hot rod.
