First, I'm a recent transplant from Tacoma WA so my knowledge & tastes have a left coast bent! I have been messing with old cars since the 1950's. Currently I'm building a '49 Ford coupe. I drove a '51 to school in 1959 & '60. That one was upholstered in black & white, lowered and ended up with a 292 Y block for power ( know how to change shoe box axles & trannies) My '49 appears to have been a business coupe though it now has both a back seat & flipper quarter windows. It seems to have been a street rod back in the sixties as it was lowered by torching the front springs and de-arching the rears. That leads to the problem of having it too low so they applied the '60s remedy spacers in front and long shackles in back. From what I know of the car, it qualifies as a "barn find". Taking it apart is great fun and triggers fond memories (some not so fond too). Anyway, It's getting a M II front frame stub, pumped up 351w, AOD and 9" for running gear. The body already has some leading; the side trim & hood. I'm in the process of doing the head lights, tail lights and license plate. Not sure whether it's a hot rod or a custom but I'm not much into making that determination. My '51 was definitely a Hot Rod.
