Some more screen captures from local racing and from the 1968 Springnationals held at Madison Township (remember when they used to call it that?) Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Pete
Well this thread used to be fun, enjoyed all of the pictures and some of the stories but it looks like it has run its course. Good luck to all JL
Question: is this the "Fun-Fun-Fun" Biscayne or a completely different car? (Division 7? I thought Land of N.E.D. was God's Country?) Wayne Jesel? Pete
Bill I. built and raced another Biscayne after selling the first one(Kicks). This is the second car. It was green and named "Paranoia" or something like that...... That is definately Wayne Jesel in the picture in front of the Yoo Hoo Wagon.... The Chevelle was driven by Dan Jesel......it was a 396/375 I believe. Me and my partner had an entry to the 1968 SpringNationals at E-Town with our Sedan Delivery. We discovered we had a cracked block before the race and there was no way we were in a position to get it fixed in time to make the race. We agreed to let our friends use the entry and they raced their Sedan Delivery. They painted our names on the front fenders so NHRA would not give them any heat about the entry swap.... I think that race had some problems with the starting line coming apart! I did not attend....we were down and out! Sold the car right after that....
Well Pete - You ALMOST got a pic of the Stock Eliminator Champion here in the 3rd and 4th pix! In the pic is the 58 Poncho of the late Dick Baker of Columbus Ohio (later he had the 70 Stage 1 Buick out of Len Immke Buick pictured earlier in this thread). Beside the Baker Poncho You can see Ron Garey's Ramp truck. (Black with white roof with his name on door). Baker would travel with us a lot of times. Maybe these pix were taken while the Eliminator bracket was in progress and Ron and his car are in the staging lanes. Keep those old pix a-comin!!
Attention all "HAMBERS". In a response to this post, I posted a pic of a "hooded" individual. It was meant not to offend anyone. I apologize to anyone that may have been offended and I will assure all of you that I will be very careful in the future when I reply to a comment(s) about either my original racecar(in my avatar) or my current tribute car. The moderator of this site has chosen to removed that post and admonish me for it, which is entirely his right to do so. i hope no offense was taken by any of this Jr. Stock thread's followers! Tweed
Tweed, You don't have to apologize. Your race car's name IS what it IS. Anyone who is that hypersensitive about race....well, tough sh*t. Like I said in a previous post, if the car had Black Power written on its fender Whitey would not dare complain for that would be "racist." Yes siree, free speech and expression, and equal standard of treatment for all is alive and 'well' in 2010. Pete
Here are a few more vidcaps I forgot to post... I found this cool blog recently and want to share it with the group: http://www.downingandryan.com/ford-has-a-better-idea-its-the-going-thing Pete
Pete, If you loose your fastball, you can try the back-door slider. The 'Northeast Raider' was from up our way, at Dover Dragstrip. NY. The car was originally out of Massachussetts. I think Jed St. DeAngelo was the original owner. Joe Beltempo from up our way got it in 68'/69'. A 63' Plymouth NHRA-legal aluminum-nose 426 Ram-Air Max-Wedge. Ran SS/CA in 68', and A/SA in 1969 ran 11.90's. A 'Killer Car'. pc
Pete -- Again you ALMOST got a shot of the Stock Eliminator Champion at 68 E-Town-- here you have "settled" for the Runner-up -- Little John Dianna in his Delivery! Keep em comin!! You must not have given us Olds guys a second look!! (with your lens)LOL
The red white and blue biscayne is the Fun Fun Fun car minus the Kicks lettering but before he had the red and blue repainted in metal flake and lettered. Can't miss the big Tony Feil sticker on the side. The second Izykowski car was the one that Kate Kowalick at Island booked for a match race against Pat. Wonder what little tricks the 2 of them unleashed for, I think, a best 3 out of 5. I know av gas was involved. Think of how much this would go for today: Pat towed that car for a while with a 61 Impala SS 409 4 speed. I think that was the car he was driving when he got in the accident that left him pretty messed up.
Really liked this car. Thanks for the great picture. Anyone want to guess on what size those front tires are?? Talk about roll out!
