    Thanks Colsey for that!!

    I sent out an e-mail ballot of sorts to about 20 folks I know in the industry / hobby who raced some of these cars, and so far the overwhelming choice is the DIXCO look on the left.

    Gary Glover called and reminded me that the Dixco look actually came in some early to mid 60's Chevys from the factory &/or dealership...

    another friend broke it down like this...

    "If it's for a Tri-5 or Full Size Car in Jr. Stock the first one on the left"
    "If it's for a small or mid-size muscle car in Jr. Stock the second one on the right... They both fit into the era your talking about."

    Here's another from a racer in the know...
    "That first Sun tach (on the left) would have been a typical tach from about '62 until 1968/69."

    So what really comes down to is personal preference of the look &/or the emotional connection to what you had previously....

    No matter what I end up using I'll be sure that my ground wire is good to go. :D

    :cool:As for the tachs, I had a stewart warner that was similar to the one on the left, switched to the one on the right and had no complaints but bought a Moroso cable driven one and......wow. Lots of pictures of the 62 Dodge wagons but here's one of a 62 Plymouth. Is this Jack Worrell?

    I'll try not to take offense. I graduated from the General Motors Training Center in Union, N.J. as a certified Chevrolet tech. I think I know how to wire a tach!!! It's possible I had a defective one, as I had no problem with my Autometer tach. I heard from the speed shop owner at that time there were several returns of this brand tach, so I may have formed an opinion from a small base of people. My brother said it, also. Glad you were happy with yours.

    BadNews, I felt the same way when I read that comment... But then I caught my breath, and but blew it off as just another misinterpreted e-mail. I'm sure it was just a comment to help.

    My guess is those needles were not counter balanced or "Image Stabilized" :D, to help reduce some of that erratic movement. I've used the Big Monster Autometers and they never ever acted like my POS did back in the 70's.

    In 1963 i installed one of the sun tachs on my 55 chevrolet with the sending unit installed in the engine compartment it worked for a short time than the sending unit quit working the needle would jump around than stop working. a lot of people that i knew had the sun tachs had problems. I installed a stewart warner tach and my problems were over. ROBERT

    Sorry if you guys took my response wrong. You would be surprised at the number of guys I know racing today who still have this problem with todays tachs. 99% of the time it turns out to be a bad or loose ground. I will keep my mouth shut from now on.

    I can remeber one time in paticular when myself and the IHRA Tech Director (Robert Lenord) of that time had a gun pulled on us :eek: at Rockingham back around 1972 or 73 after we DQ'ed the S/S winner (a SS/AA Dart who shall remain nameless). That was when the S/S cars had to be real cars with UN-ported heads, etc. and we tore down the stock and S/S winners AFTER the eliminator on Sunday evenings. Now that was a lot of fun. It was even more fun watching the N.C. state police taking him down....lol. :D

    The 3 long years I worked in D-1 for NHRA I had a few issues with 2 or 3.....:mad:

    Colesy,Thanks for posting. If you look over the drivers door you will see the car was running M/S when the picture was taken. The car was built to run N/SA but we put a three speed in the car to set the record to get the points.

  26. This car has been recreated and runs nostalgia with us on a regular basis.
    has same colour,same lettering,and same owner..just a larger motor now..

    Gary Man, '55 - 150 post - is this the car you want the carb for???

    "Gary, a couple of questions. 1), Who coined "The Valley Boys" handle and 2) Who did the paint and lettering on your 55's? "

    I don't know exactly who coined the phrase but it came because of us living in the San Fernando Valley. Our sedan delivery was the first to have it lettered on the car.
    It also appeared on Joes wagon and John Diannas sedan delivery. I am not sure about the paint. The sedan delivery was bought green. I would never paint a car that color. Lettering was done by Walt Prey out of Bill Carters shop.

    I was one of the unlucky cars to be picked to tear down the motor for the class win. this car had the 255 HP 350 CI motor. ROBERT
