    Pete, I know Barry wallners 57 delivery and my 57 delivery are "in" for York this year but don't think the In Bomber can make it this year. Maybe that'll change before July..

    Too freakin cool man. I saw a pic of this thing sitting in the weeds before (you?) (they?) drug it out and damn does it look sharp now. What a cool ride man sounds good uncapped thats the only way to roll:cool:

    P/S record is now close to 12:25 your probably right at 3 second improvement. don't forget you can nearly strip all of the heater box, fan, wiper, all of the wiring, rods for heater, light front brakes etc, etc. Since NHRA has decided to allow 1957 on up to compete in Stock.     56,Just what the Dr ordered!and it came from a drag racer dude!(altho not a racer of cars this old)Just something he picked up from someone who had it sitting around.he was going to scrap it,or give it to another 55-57 guy.Some friends were talking to him and said hey we know someone who can use that!

    Now all i need are heads and carbs,and to dig in and see whats in there cam wise!

    Pretty sure was F56F or something like that.

    Hi I have a question. If i put a set of Stahl headers on my street driven Jr Stocker will i lose the use of my fresh air vents Thank You Keith
     
  14. No the headers will exit under the fresh air vents (this is a '57?). You will have to cut the inner fenderwells. We removed our vents for weight but they were not in the way.

    At the time we ran P/S the record was 15.24, held by Dave Boertman in the same car model. The best we ever ran was 15.54. It wasnt too bad for a total cost of $600, starting with a $45 car and we made our own headers, a $50 4 speed and a home built motor

    56 dual quad vette stuff(far as i know) somone posted #s on here for me once gottem written down somewhere lol had a guy close by that had a 57 vette but had 56 carbs and wanted to replace i am going to get ahold of him and see if he sold em yet.

    Early 57 Corvettes had 56 carbs on the 245hp 283. 56 and early 57 245hp carbs had air adjusting screws on the drivers side of the baseplate while the other WCFBs didn't. 270 hp 283 carbs are different. Here is a pic of what you are looking for.

    If you were allowed to run replacemnt carbs the later 270hp versions will flow more air.

    I thought you could use the service replacement heads in Jr. Stock which would allow you to use the 520 castings.

    If you're building a "period correct" Junior Stocker, the #520 heads would be preferable. We went to great lengths to find good 520 heads that had not been subjected to a prior valve job. I bought a set of new 520 castings as late as 1970.

    Up until about '59 the valve cover bolt holes were staggered, i.e., the upper holes, closest to the carburetors, were closer together than the ones nearest the exhaust ports. All the 520 heads that I've seen had the upper and lower holes aligned. Because of this cosmetic difference, I would suspect that a pure restoration of a '56 would be expected to use the staggered valve cover configuration.

    The 1967 Dart GT could be had with a 383/280 HP engine.
    The hardtop weighed in at #3208 or 11.45 wt/hp.
    1967 NHRA Class = D/S (11.30 - 11.88)
    1968 NHRA Class = G/S (11.50 -11.99)

    It was called a 383 GTS (front fender side emblem)

    Good article in Car Craft about the introduction of the car, through Grand-Spaulding.
    It was a 525 cfm AFB carburetor that was used on the engine.

    The end of 1967, the D/S record was 12.85 @ 107.14 by Bob Lambeck in a 57' Chevy
    283/283 HP Fuel Injection.
    But D/SA would have been a better combination for the Dart.
    Unfortunately, only about 225 automatics and 225 4-speed produced.
    Not too many people willing to convert them to drag race cars.

    No, I didnt forget to let it leak but the tech inspector with the propane torch didnt like it at all & made me fix all of them. I should have done what Bob Dwyer did with the Crockagator Studebaker and used springs on long studs to hold vibration down {right !} in the carb. When the throttle rod bottomed out it tilted the front of the carb up slightly. He didnt show me that trick until much later though. He used it to set the Orange Bowl regatta 280 hydro record with a 273 Dodge engine 15 years later though. Said the boat guys werent on top of the tech like the NHRA guys were.

    A guy had 2 intake and carb set on there a while back they were supposed to both be 56 sets.i belive the intakes were correct(lol and i have the right one of those) but i could get NO reply on carb #s from him whatsoever.they were 750 :( cheap but usless if off #

    I saw some pretty nice "sophisticated" "bellcranks" attached to carb linkages that made the carb rise up off the manifold as the pedal was pushed down! Thats 'innovation"!! LOL. Of course that was before NHRA took all the fun out of it by outlawing the "leakers". Boertmans car was all about carburetor "science"! Other than that, his car was just like all the rest of the 59 biscaynes out there running that class. I guess thats what you call "racers edge" - eh??
