I grew up in a neighborhood just up the hill from Crivelli Chevrolet. Worked there as a lot attendant in college, so I know Jim Boburka ("Gig"). He was (and is) service manager there.
Ran across a couple of Bill Truby pictures. Anyone happen to know either one of these cars? Jim is this possibly Tony's '62 with different lettering?
So the York reunion this year is Ford I know, but is next year's 2010 show really jr. stockers?? That would be cool and some motivation to get the Patrick Bros. '57 totaly finished up. -Dean
No they were not, Jerry. M/P was lbs per cu.in. ,like the gas classes S/SS is Factory or NHRA adjusted HP, times the shipping weight. I don't have any of those old books. I move too much!
Bob (Rice).... The "wacky wagon" was driven by Bob (Beaver) Butter. Bob passed away a few years. He was still running (NHRA) SS up until a few years before he died. Tom Sheehan
Hi Bob, I don't know what Tony did with the car when he was done with it. All 62s look alike but you never know. Jim
Joe, I have almost all the rule books from '59-'76, so if there is one particular year or class you want to know about, just ask and I'll look it up for you. The only one I memorized was D/MP in '68-'71 because that's what I ran. (10lbs/cuin). Verne
Hey Wagonkiller - Here's the hydro you need for the Tokyo Rose! It's even in PA........... http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/1077015799.html jrstock55
Some of you guys might enjoy this look back in time. There are a few Junior Stockers shown in the video. I'm pretty sure the '56 is Ed Wright's car. http://www.competitionplus.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9215&Itemid=51
got a return mail from this fellow he is supposed to call me today Thanks jrstock! Hey BTW you have something i could REALLY use for my project!Any chance of buying those off you??
Guys, I read one time I think in Car Craft that guys who ran the Hydros in the Deliveries with I think the 4:09 first gear often commented that leaving the line would put the engines into valve float because of the deep first and then a 4:88 or 5:13 rear. Anybody who was there back then ,can you comment???
57 D,there were two different ratios in the old hydros. One was in commercial chassis(hearse, limos&tanks)was the 4.09 first. The other used in Pontiac,Olds, got the 3.86(3.8 something)first. Now if it was a Olds or Pontiac commercial chassis it got the 4.09 gear set.As I remember the hardest thing was to shift out of first without valve float. We would set trans up to shift by it self out of first, and you set it to be soft or it would bog from a too low of a shift. Many other brands used it also,Hudson(remember the Hudson JET twin H engine Hydro I/SA),Nash,Willys,Rolls Royce,Bentley,Lincoln(yes lincoln)and Andy Granatelli used a Hydromatic in his indy cars(only one ever to use a hydro).I still have my manuals and special tools...somewhere. IS this the same car as in the ad as the picture is his 57. (Fifty SEVEN) And as far as I know GM never made a 57 Delray.
Colesy, the picture you posted is indeed Ed Beyer. Also in the pic is Dale Young who drove some of Ed's fords....SOUPY
Soupy,if these trans were used in gassers as well I am assuming they were pretty bulletproof?? The guy I use for trans work said they also had a tendency to lock up the back tires during a run if by some chance the engine loses steam . Is that accurate as well??
57 D,Hydro's were big ,heavy and very ineffencent.Remember they didnt have a torque converter, but a fluid coupling(33 bolts held them together),yes unbreakable as long as you didnt get real low on trans fluid. The hydros of old had two oil pumps, one front and one rear.If you lost power on a run,yes it is possible to lock the rear wheels.Engine stops but driveshaft still turning drives the rear pump keeping oil pressure in trans.weight shifts froward, slicks being what they were years back, and a high compressing engine with stiff gears,it happened.Back in the day you could push start cars with hydros...I dont know how I remember this stuff, flash backs?.....SOUPY
I had mine done at E-town in the pits. I think it took about 4 minutes, new parts and all.......he even threw in 4 new steel rod bushings.........no charge. Were those the days, or not??? Verne
Actually, before the "Del Ray" moniker for a body style in 58, there was the optional "Del Ray" interiors. So, a 57 model 210 could have the "Del Ray" option, but there were NO emblems declaring that. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Thanks so much for the picture of the "Anderson Olds". The car pictured is the 1968 442 driven by Sonny Freeman. The car I now own is the final "Anderson" car which is a 1969 W31. The factory suggested the W31 and gave them a little help along the way. Thanks again, Dave.
if i am not mistaken the DUAL-RANGE HYDRO WAS FIRST USED BY G.M. BACK IN THE LATE 30'S. i worked on a few myself (WORRELL BROS.) back in the day.when parked, placing in reverse pos. this would lock the trans.stoping the car from moving .(parking brake paw ) hope this helps JAKE
Spring Carlisle 2009 ... http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/spring-carlisle/ I'm going up Wednesday and/or Thursday. Anyone else going? At Spring Carlisle '91 (the image above) there were over 8,400 (10'X30') vendor spaces! More @ http://www.pennsylvania-mountains-o...-meet-car-corral-auction-april-2226-2009.html
Thanks Soupy. The Flashbacks?? It could be residual sand blasting material from the "Flat Black" sandblasting story from this week causing it......Whatever it is ,I apreciate the info....
