It may have been raced but the serial number is not in the range for a Hurst built car. If you look at the picture of the differential you will see that it has the tapered axles and hubs. ALL factory built SS cars had a flanged axle with slide off drums. There were many non Hurst built cars raced in SS though. AMC released a kit in 1970 to convert the '69 AMX's to SS standards for 1970...
You're welcome. Being a longtime fan of big-block intermediates, I say that the Agent 007 Biscayne is too cool! However, that car was a couple of years before my time (first time I went to the drags, that is) and I never got a chance to see it run...only Norm's 1969 SS/D Camaro. Pete
I found an old article on a local Division 3 racer from way back. I hope it's not too new for this group or too off topic.
Really a nice piece Eddie -- perfect for this thread... Thanks! It's interesting to note that Jerry 'Tank' Goffinet was referred to as a "stoutly built rookie." Now days his burley physique is actually more the norm for American males. Alas, cars have shed some weight in the past four decades, but drivers have certainly become heavier.
Yea Bill, they'd sure be remiss not to profile (at least) George ... but how bout 'Archie'? And it would be nice for the often-mentioned-here 'Big' John Barkley to take a minute from his busy schedule and 'stop by' our little group's thread and say 'hi'! Alas, guess I'll have to break down and spring for my first HRM purcha$e since the 1970's ... did it go up to a BUCK yet?
Keep an eye out for any shots of the Patrick Bros In-Bomber '57 Chevy. NHRA H/Stock champion in '68, I/Stock runners up in '69. I'm always searching hard for any photos, footage or information. -Dean
No longer 50 cents (60 in Canada) and sadly the contenet isn't up to 1968 standards either, let alone 1978. But hey, good to see the ads have tripled. Its only the odd issue like July's that I pick up now adays.
Oh great gods of J.S. A non computer having friend wanted me to pose 2 questions to you. (1) does anyone remember a hemi car in J.S./ Stock eliminator that had a carb plate on it that covered the engine bay? He can't remeber the car but swares he saw it when he was a kid in the pits at Cecil. (2) do you know what kind of cigars Grumpy smoked. I feel like a dummy asking but he is a good egg!
Yea Pete ... KUDOS! Keep this up and Hot Rod Magazine will have to do a follow-up to their July Junior Stock piece. Cheers! ... Steve
Bob, It is my sincere pleasure. And a BIG thank you, to you, for posting all those cool Bill "Redman" Floyd photos to the Yahoo! StockSSDragRacing group. Stay tuned... Pete http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/StockSSDragRacing/
Steve, Glad you enjoy my posts. I wouldn't be suprised if someone from their magazine is a lurker here. Nope...wouldn't be surpised one bit. Pete
Bill ... Was 'Racing Pulse' a short-lived or regional mag? I've never seen a copy ... excellent well-crafted piece! Also (I'm sure you remember this) one of the *Petersen Group pubs (*I 'think') did a pretty-comprehensive article on Marv Ripes and his Powerglide Wizardry ... have you already posted it? Thanks! ... Steve
Thanks Bill! Glad to hear the package arrived safely. Yes, the 1968 World Finals Annual has lots of great pix in it from the 1967 race. The decals are vintage 1970's Raceway Park! Regards, Pete
Found this on Classracer.com. Anyone know anything about it? Bob Rice Edward and Frank Hernandez, '57 Corvette
I can't believe just how "small" this world really is. I just read a reply with the name Stover Mackey. Well, old Stover was a good friend; he passed on a couple of years ago. I am friends with his son and he is into racing but not the Drags. Stover was a good man and surely is missed.
