Projects Nice 57 Chevy survivor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Dec 9, 2022.

  1. He has a restored 56 CV.
312 auto car. He doesn’t drive it much. I hope he drives this one.

  2. That's fucked up....nobody should be able to start with a car that nice!!!'cept me, of course.

  3. We built one much nicer than this where I used to work.
One owner 55 post car. 20k miles.
The paint and interior was great.
went the pro-touring direction. 540 inch BBC
I mentioned dropping this 57 and some chrome steelies. He didn’t disagree.

I kinda like this one better. Has more character.

Chevy used that weird black primer on hoods and front fenders. The silver and a few other colors didn't stick to it really well. Rear bumper gaps look great! Something I look at on every 57. It's so obvious when someone tapped a garage wall or other object. That long bumper end twists up and throws the fitment off.

Small pic, but an example. I just went through a bunch of '57 pics to find it. Most cars with bumper misalignment had billet wheels. Hmm, a connection?

Outstanding, Anthony. Having grown up with a 57, it's always great to see one that survived and will be loved again.

  6. unreal condition!...I'd leave the driveline in it, maybe put a Muncie 4 speed in it.

  8. Less than 45,000 miles? Hardly broke in! Chance the fluids and get it roadworthy, then drive it. Nothing to cry about if it's a daily and gets a parking lot door ding.

  9. That’s the plan
He ain’t skeered of dings, that’s why he keeps me around for.
He has a rollback and I fix the dings

If you put a 4 speed in that beauty you would have a reason to remove that thing protruding from your steering column!!!

Nice car. Give that 235 a chance! Three on the tree. Some had OD, that would be cool. They are only stock once no matter how much is spent on restoration. Small & needed repairs are no big deal. I wish I could have talked my cousins out of my uncle's big '52 Hudson Hornet.

  16. Ive got an OD
He’s got a nice 41 Chevy truck with a 235. But it’s also “to nice to drive”.
His dad bought the truck new
I guess he buys all his relatives old rides.
I think he’s ready to cruise an old ride and this one will be left as is.

    for now.

Thanks Anthony, beautiful example of my H.S. car. That color I hid under rattle can grey primer
Ran the 6 a yr, then made it a motion machine.
With respect, good comment, that's not what you are looking at.
Photo #1 on trailer, under sky, no over door trim.
Pic# 2 Inside shop, nose shot.
    Pic#3 Odometer
    Pic#4 Beautiful trunk
Pic#5 Driver side, shop ceiling lights reflect off window frames.
Pic #6 Driver side from rear, elbow trim, of 210 model, can be seen ending at C pillar.
I used to envy the guys with the Belair extra trim. So I made up for it SW springs, etc, etc.

  18. The trunk mat tells it all, never saw one of those intact in any old car I have bought.

There's no such thing as 'too nice to drive'. If there is, it's got no use on the planet.

  24. I agree 100%
    The owner doesn’t.
He over restored his dads old truck. Sometimes I wonder if he regrets that

That's a great find, will clean up well.

My uncle bought a dusk pearl 57 chevy 283 3spd New. Story goes - had Chevy dealer swap a 4 spd into it the first year of owning.

  26. Nonsense. If that didn't happen where would all these great 'surviors' come from that everybody on the HAMB drools over. There is absolutely a place for the garage queens and trailer babies. It's called the future.

What he is saying is if everyone had a “use it up” attitude that there would be no survivors to find...

  29. Driving isn’t using em up
But I guess you can find enjoyment looking at em kinda like driving em.

This particular 57 was driven most of its life. Just very short trips and parked under a shed.
The new owner has a few nicely restored cars along with a newer vette.
They sit in a garage. He’s been taking with me about building a “rodent” cause he’d like something old he can drive without the stress of a chip or scratch or whatever. He hardly drives em to the local cruise ins.
then his cousin finally gave him a price on this 57.
He paid for this one. Under market value but not much.

As far as saving, I’ve got a couple beaters that were dead, headed for the shredder. One purchased moments before it would have seen the claw.
They’re on bonus time. Driving the crap out of em without any worry about using them up. They already were.
