Projects Nice 57 Chevy survivor

  1. I use the hell out of mine, maintain, use, repair, use…if there isn’t anything left of them when I’m done with them I won’t care, I’ll be dead.

It’s kinda like this for me. Hopefully someone wants this old junk, but I’m ok if no one does.
Life’s too short to stress about possession

I'm an owner, not a caretaker.

  4. This thread is starting to reach oxymoron status. If this car had been driven hard and put away wet, it wouldn't be considered a survivor, it'd be considered scrap worth saving. But because someone chose not to roll up the miles and showed common sense in storage you're all going apeshit about the quality of this 'survivor', while at the same time saying that's it's a waste not to daily drive a car. No matter how you slice it, daily driven and quality survivor sound alot like jumbo shrimp, free love or Army Intelligence.

  5. Yep this thread got goofy. I’ve seen this car. It’s not pristine. Just an old car that was enjoyed by its owner and parked in a shed. The cousin he bought it from didn’t do much with it after he got it. It was beginning to deteriorate and it’s current owner was the one doing maintenance.
I guess the comment I made that the current owner doesn’t drive his restored cars messed everything up.
    They’re his not to drive.
I’ve got a 61 Chevy truck with the same miles that’s rotted. It wasn’t parked under a shed.
But the good part about the truck not being taken care of is that it fit my price range.
This nice 57 cost 4 times what I paid for the 56 I’m building.
Worth it if your paying chop labor in the long run.
luckily someone neglected my wagon just enough the price range and condition fit my wallet and skill level.
One thing we sorta lose in all this is that if you’re concerned about value, the value of your ride increases with demand. Demand is greatly affected by availability.
All the cars turned into toasters, drag cars, round trackers, or just left to rot increase its value.
The 57 found a good home for now. I’ll post a pic or two after he cleans it up. We might spot in a few places. I’ll probably check with my lacquer place soon. I suspect I’ll be over there soon with a buffer.

  7. If anyone around bama has a driver quality bumper they’ll part with let me know.
I was trying to talk him into to chrome steelies and a drop :):)
He didn’t say no or have a strange look on his face. That’s when he mentioned he had a couple 348s but also walked me to an engine pile that has a 261.

Neat 57. I think it's kind of a tough job to put a 348 in one of those. Seems like we tried to put a 348 in a 55 years ago. Lippy

Cause he knows he’ll go overboard on the car.

I think a later 250 I6 with the split manifold would make a neat driver. Had one in a square body pickup with a 3 speed, had a good sound and plenty of power.

Looking forward to the ''cleaned up'' pictures. There's NO such thing as a car too nice to modify! This car is begging to be a mild custom. Canted quads won't happen I guess. Though it would be cool!

Lower it, buff it, straight pipe it and have a blast cruising it ! Funny these factory pastel colors have really grown on me. 15 years ago I would have picked anything other than stock paint choices.

Not sure I'm qualified to comment on this, but my 2cents worth is just clean it, maintain it and drive it. Lots of other cars out there that aren't as original to modify, hot rod or customize, do engine/trans swaps on or otherwise personalize. I realize this is the H.A.M.B. , and I may have just uttered blasphemy, but I'd be proud to just drive it...
p.s. maybe a little chrome polish?

So cool. Chevrolet used that weird black primer on front fenders & hoods in '57. Even the factory paint didn't stick to it well. Six cylinder cars had only the script on the hood, no ''V''. A neat look IMHO.
