Not at all trying to hijack this thread but.......can someone make a comparison between the Walter ZIP cutoff wheels Kev mentioned and the 3M Green Corps wheels. I use the 3M since they last so much longer but am always open to something new 9to me) and better.

Check with Lobeck, they used to have the 3" chopped windshield parts.

Kevin, I'm with everyone else and will be watching for future updates. What are the plans for the coupe? Lakes maybe? Quite a lot of setback for a street car. You did a great job by building the cage and tacking the doors to the body. When we chopped my coupe in '99 we did it the same way. The FOGGER

    i wanna see more pictures.

I cut the roof on my 40 with a sawzall. I bet those hand held band saws are way nicer, slower cutting speed, more control.

  16. Started by cutting the B posts free from the top and rebuilding a new place for them to sit forward from their old location....

Then we cut the posts and upper cowl free from the cowl.

GREAT work Kev!!! Lots of motivation for me on my 33 5W!!! MORE PICS PLEASE :D

  18. The plan was to tack the B pillars back on the body then sit the top in place and fine tune the fit. The pillars have a taper so they didn't fit together perfectly. The top part was cut and opened up a little, the bottom was cut and closed a little.

Next the pillars were tacked on.

  21. Great chop so far. Do you have more shots of the front windshield too cowl area and what you ended up doing. Is baby blue coupe that came from mark that you have chopped the same?

Looks great Kevin, I really should call you so we can catch up. This is great inspiration for me as well. Your doing it exactly like I wanna do mine.

  24. With the top sitting in place it is hard to envision the window opening so we made a pattern of the door top to make sure we were happy with the look. Notice the gap in the top of the quarter window that now needs filling.

Here is how the back window lines up now. The corners will be cut out and moved over leaving another gap to fill.

This will need to be reworked like the back window.

  26. I love it. that 34 is going to be hard as nails. looks like it going a 120 sitting still!! cant wait to see it come along!!!

  27. Here is Greg making sure the top is centered before anything is done up front. We were constantly checking measurements throughout the job.

A couple of braces were added inside to hold the front of the top in position while we worked on it.

The plan was to cut into the top corner about 6" each side, grab the posts and pull forward until something moved. That is why we left that inner skin in place, ( it is seperated at the rear). I figured that would beef up the upper windshield reveal enough for it to move with the posts. I think it worked.

Next the corners were cut free from the top to give us room to work on the cowl and posts.

  28. It was going to take a little work to get this thing in place. The forward lip had to be bent down, the lower corners had to be cut off etc.

A few relief cuts and a little hammer and dolly work took care of the front lip.

A filler strip will be needed across the cowl.

A cardboard pattern was used to make sure the window lip was on the same plane before another tack located the post angle.

great work man, i love the updates. Cant wait to see more

  30. The same pattern was used to figure the cut on the post. First I marked the size of the removed section.

Then I transferred the mark onto the post and cut it off.

    It's a ****in' miracle!
