OK Guys, after a long pause, the little junkyard coupester is back! My brother, Neal, (Fortypickup on the HAMB) started this car. I'm sure many of you followed his build thread until he started another project and gave up on Nickle and Dime. And then, unfortunately he passed. After about two years, My son Joshua decided that it had set long enough and bought it from Neal's son. More to follow.
Then Josh decided he needed more room for both the A and the 46 so he tore down a wall. And a little mock-up to get a feel for what he wanted to do.
So then, things went south....What was supposed to be a good running flathead had a cracked block and a couple of gallons of water in the pan. I heard the motor run when Neal had it but no anti-freeze in the winter does not work Anyway out comes the old.
In the meanwhile my son scored a complete front end out of a 46 ford. I know, it's not model A, it's too big and ugly and the spring is in front of the axle. But we had a plan and the rear was out of a 40 so we figured it would work just fine. He also grabbed a couple of 34 wires Figuring out radius arm placement and finalizing spring length and spring perch placement.
About a month later, like it or hate it....good ol Facebook Marketplace to the rescue. Turns out somebody in Colorado was turning a running, driving 41 Ford into a gasser and was selling a fairly fresh flathead, wiring harness and front hubs including brakes which he really needed. So....back on track.
We are going to reinforce the wishbones where we are drilling for the spring perches. That should be plenty strong. Lots of meat to drill through We checked everything for squareness to the frame and josh welded it up.
Josh was worried about a title and found out in Nebraska all you need is a frame number. So off came the body to see if we could find it. A little sketchy but it worked. Found it! Took all the info to the Sheriff , two weeks later title in hand! With the body off, Josh finalized things and started to weld things up New Shoes! New motor............In! What a difference the tires and wheels make, Right?!
